Q. V .1 Y ,5-wma'-2' W k L, ' . Q .,,k. Newcomers Fit In Graduation hit the Kelley tennis team hard. They lost members of last year's regional champion team. However, the play of four freshmen com- bined with two veterans carried the Comets to a se- cond place finish in the regionals. Senior Tom Medlock and junior Carter Bandy were the only returning starters on the team. Ban- dy and Medlock played singles for the Comets. Ban- dy played No. 1 and Medlock played No. 2. The four freshmen carried the doubles load for Kelley. Michael Harper and Michael Back played No. 1 doubles, while Scott Blosser and Todd Adams handled the duties for No. 2 doubles. Once again this year the entire team reached the state tournament. The team of Harper and Back reached the Semi-Finals before losing their first match. Then, they came back to capture fourth place. Tough ehedule Hampers Comets Due to a tough schedule, the Comet baseball team suffered an up and down season. The Comets finished the season with a record of 13-20. The record was misleading because eleven of Kelley's losses came by one run. The season did have some highlights. The first victory of the year was Coach Jim Woolridge's 100th career victory at Kelley. The victory was an 11-7 decision over Class SA Hale. The 1985 Comets consisted of mainly Seniors. Shannon Reed and Greg Glover led the team in hit- ting with averages of .440 and .4-09, respectively. Reed and Clover both three year starters made First Team All-City. Reed made the team as an out- fielder, while Glover was the First Baseman. Jeff Santee, another three year starter, and Rob .lezek were the Comets ace pitchers. Santee proved to be a hard-luck pitcher finishing with a record of 2-4, which included a one-hitter against Webster. Santee suffered the loss as the Comets were beaten 1-0. Included in the Comets tough schedule was a total of seven games against the Class 4-A and SA state champions, Webster and Bartlesville. The Comets took two out of the three games with Bartlesville. The final victory came in the second round of the Metro Tournament. 1 Jeff Santee brings the heat. 2 Coach Woolridge celebrates his 1 00th victory. L 4.- 173
