Swimmers Stroke to tate Finish The Bishop Kelley swim team enjoyed their finest season in their three year existence. Captains Rob Emery and Tammy Harbison led Kelley. The boys' team finished tenth place at the state meet, while the girls' team finished a strong sixth at state. The boys' team was led by the 400 free relay team. Jack McFarland, Owen Bushaw, Rob Emery and Joey Rummerfield made up the team that took eighth at state, with a time of 3.35.94. McFarland also took 12th at state in the 200 individual medley. Emery qualified for state in the 100 fly and the 100 breast. He placed 15th and 13th respectively. Rummerfield qualified and took eighth in the state at 100 back. McFarland and Matt Brougher both qualified in the 500 free. They took sixth and 1 4-th, respectively. The girls' team placed sixth out of 2 1 teams. The girls were led by the relay teams. The 200 medley relay team finished fourth at state. The team consisted of Diane Walterbach, Kate Bradley, Amy Johnson, and Tammy Harbison. The 400 free relay team, made up of Kathy Kelly, Karen LeBlanc. Therese Cavlovic and Lynne Smith, captured eighth place. Smith also placed fourth in the 200 free and second in the 500 free. Walterbach finished fifth in the 100 back and ninth in the 200 free. Bradley won fourth in the 100 breast and Tam Harbison placed 1 3th and 14-th in the 100 and the 50 free respectively. Tracy Schooling was Kelley's only diver this year and she qualified for the state diving meet. She placed 13th in the state with a total of 181.95 points. At right, On your mark, get set, go! 8

Girls Bring Home First Title The girls, varsity tennis squad with only two seniors, one junior, and three freshmen brought home the first state title in Kelleyis history. The Comets were coached by Ms. Weems who has coached the team for four years. Senior Natalie Illig grabbed a title in number one singles as she finished the season with a record of 19-2. Freshman Ginger Lewis finished with a record of 24--1 and won the state title in number two singles. Kelley's doubles teams also fared well with senior Sara Den- nehy and freshman Michelle Gwyn finishing second to Ard- moreis two-time defending state champions. Sara and Michelle closed with a record of 23-2. The number two doubles team, junior Carey Cobb and freshman Patricia Illig, placed fourth and had a record of 13-9.
