Swimmers Stroke to tate Finish The Bishop Kelley swim team enjoyed their finest season in their three year existence. Captains Rob Emery and Tammy Harbison led Kelley. The boys' team finished tenth place at the state meet, while the girls' team finished a strong sixth at state. The boys' team was led by the 400 free relay team. Jack McFarland, Owen Bushaw, Rob Emery and Joey Rummerfield made up the team that took eighth at state, with a time of 3.35.94. McFarland also took 12th at state in the 200 individual medley. Emery qualified for state in the 100 fly and the 100 breast. He placed 15th and 13th respectively. Rummerfield qualified and took eighth in the state at 100 back. McFarland and Matt Brougher both qualified in the 500 free. They took sixth and 1 4-th, respectively. The girls' team placed sixth out of 2 1 teams. The girls were led by the relay teams. The 200 medley relay team finished fourth at state. The team consisted of Diane Walterbach, Kate Bradley, Amy Johnson, and Tammy Harbison. The 400 free relay team, made up of Kathy Kelly, Karen LeBlanc. Therese Cavlovic and Lynne Smith, captured eighth place. Smith also placed fourth in the 200 free and second in the 500 free. Walterbach finished fifth in the 100 back and ninth in the 200 free. Bradley won fourth in the 100 breast and Tam Harbison placed 1 3th and 14-th in the 100 and the 50 free respectively. Tracy Schooling was Kelley's only diver this year and she qualified for the state diving meet. She placed 13th in the state with a total of 181.95 points. At right, On your mark, get set, go! 8

Finishing up the season with a record of 7-2 in duals. and adding two more trophies to their vollection. the Comets proved once again they were best in the state. Sophomore Keith Nix and junior Raymond Roso both returned as state Champs while senior llarein Gandall and junior Mike llarris captured their first titles. Nix and Hoso went about defending their l93Ll- titles in different manners. Nix missed much of the middle of the season with a knee injury. Yet. he came off the injury to capture the runner-up spot at both the Edison and the Putnam City North Tournaments. Ross wrestl- ed well all year. His only loss came in the finals ofthe .lenks tournament. Raymond capturd the Edison and Putnam North titles on the way to his second straight title. Candall won state in his set-ond state appearance. After qualifying as a sophomore. he became ill during Regionals as a junior. Gandall captured set-ond at Edison and won the Put- nam North title. Harris. after transferring from Cascia llall, became eligible at the end of the first semester. He made the most of his eligibility by plat-ing second at the .lenks and Edison Tournaments. Other wrestlers representing Kelley in the State Tournament were seniors Bobby Boll- inger and Terrence McNulty who both placed third. sophomore Robbie Winters who placed serond, and Alex Gandall. 1.
