- Freshmen Boast Best Record The Freshmen basketball team used a high powered offense and strong rebounding en route to a 16-6 record. Jeff Coyne led the Comets in scoring. He averaged close to seventeen points per game. The Comets as a team averaged 54 points per contest. James Stovall and ,Mike Parys controlled the boards for the Comets. Stovall and Parys both averaged over ten rebounds a game. The Comets outstanding record included two runner-up trophies in tournaments. Early in the season, Kelley finished second in the Claremore Tournament. The next tournament Kelley entered was the Sand Springs Tournament. Following a semi-final upset of Union, The Comets fell to Jenks in the finals. The 16-6 record marks the best record during Coach Weyland's four years as Freshman coach. An eight game winning streak also marked the longest under Weyland. Victories over Union and Okmulgee were also firsts for Weyland. 1. Mike Jansen takes a wide open jumper. 2. Freshmen Gain Experience The freshman girls were introduced to high school basketball as they complied a record of 5-12. Despite their losing record, the girls gained valuable experience for their ' future years at Bishop Kelley.
