Girls Struggle Through Season The varsity girls struggled through the year finishing the season with a record of 2-21. With only one returning starter, the Comets faced a tough schedule from start to finish. The team played poorly in the early season but improved and continued getting better as the season progressed. Despite their losing record, the girls maintained good attitudes and played aggressively every game. Senior ,lill Rottschaefer who lead the team in scoring comment about the season, It wasnlt easy to keep coming out and re- dedicating ourselves after losing game after game, but we all stuck with it and learned from the experience. 2. The starting lineup featured just two seniors, a junior, a sophomore and a freshman. Next year,s team will miss Chris Gary and Mike Bradley, but it has a solid foundation to build on. Gary led the Comets in both scoring and rebouding, but Brett McDaniel was close in scoring. The pair, both members of the all-conference team, gave Kelley a deadly one-two punch. Sophomore Steve Axley was the third leading scorer. His out- side shooting kept the Comets in several games, and he often came up with the clutch free throws. Freshman Eric Vosburgh moved into the starting lineup late in the year and gave Kelley fans a glimp- se of what appears to be a very bright future for Kelley basketball. 1.
