Offense Sparks Comet Turnaround Offensively, the Comets had an excellent season. The team had 3,262 yards of total offense, including 2,330 yards rushing. Chris Stoltze lead the team in rushing with 663 yards in 126 carries. Raymond Roso add- ed 476 yards on 14-0 carries and Shannon Reed had 458 yards on only 91 carries. Roso and ,lim Lyons combined for 932 yards passing and eight touchdowns. Five of those touchdown passes went to All-State Split End Jeff Santee, who led the Comets with 28 receptions for 522 yards and an 18.6 yard average. The Comets outscored their opponents 261-163. Comets Slow tart, Explode Into State Finals 1984 was an outstanding year for the Comets. After a mediocre start, the Comets rode a five game winning streak into the State Finals. The Comets qualified for the playoffs with season ending victories over Bixby and Owasso. The two victories gave the Comets their second straight District title. The Comets opened the playoffs with a 19-14 victory over Pryor, avenging an earlier loss to the Tigers. The quarterfinal victory over Mustang vaulted the Comets into the semi-finals for only the second time in school history. Kelley's miraculous comeback against Miami, a 28-21 overtime victory, placed the Comets in the finals against undefeated Duncan. The Comets played Dun- can down to the wire, before a last second field goal spelled the Comets defeat. At right, Mike Spencer puts on his game face.

.tiff 'eifyq Tough Defense Carries Comets Into Finals Defense was the strength of the Comets. Led by All-State Linebacker Paul Marcoux and Honorable Mention All-State Tackle ,lim Holder the Comets allowed only 11 points per game. Marcoux and Santee led the Comets in tackles with each having over 150 tackles on the year. Greg Glover's two interceptions in the State Finals helped earn First Team All-City honors. Lyons and Reed both contributed four interceptions. The Comet defense allowed only 127 yards rushing per game. Defensive End Raymond Roso made Second Team All-City along with Defensive Backs Reed and Stoltze.
