IN MEMORIAM MICHAEL MASTERSON August 6, 1952 October 22, 1968 There is a flicker in the eyes of a new-born child that touches the heart of all those who gaze upon it. And if the child learns to live, the flicker becomes a flame, then a warm bright fire. When death seems to have smothered that flame, and the name that it belonged to is carved on cold stone: speak but to one person who loved that child and look into his eyes. You will see a reflection of the child's flame in those eyes. For what is it to die but to stand naked in the vtintl and tu melt in the sun? And what is it to cease breathing. but to free the breath from its restless tides. that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
