BISHOP FENWICK HIGH SCHOOL Peabody, Massachusetts Volume XIII THE LANCE The tapestry of our lives is shaped day by day from the individual moments that we experience. During the time we spend at Fenwick we will have added to, and sometimes changed, the color and texture of our lives. In return, we as individuals contribute to the tapestry of Fenwick as a whole. All our talents and ideas are inter- twined to create a school unlike any other. Each member of the Fenwick community is important, contributing in some way to the rest. Constant growth will change the picture and it will grow as we do. Our piece of the tapestry is reflected in the following pages . . . Fenwick is by no means the perfect place and it would be wrong to say that everyone gets along all the time. Just about everywhere you go there will be a few people who rub you the wrong way. A variety of life-styles are represented here-some that you person- ally cannot accept— but the unique thing at Fenwick is that you ' re not condemned for your individuality. There is value to being ex- posed to a number of ways of thinking. The world is made up of very different people. There is no way you can ever change them to fit your approval. In going to Fenwick, you see a small segment of the world, and come to the realization that you have to adjust your ways to fit in. At any time of day, you can al- ways find friendly faces roaming about the school. Kids manage to keep themselves occupied with sports, clubs, meetings, and plain ' ' bumming ' ' around. Sometimes things just don ' t click, and you end up walking around in a daze. Then again, there are always the rowdies in the corridors, without whom the Fenwick atmosphere would not be complete. Add all the gossip, giggles, activities, frustrations, and friendliness and you get life at Fenwick. il«§ Fenwick is very susceptable to moods. When things are going well, the whole school seems to vibrate with a good feeling. On a bad day the heavy atmosphere sur- rounds you. This empathy seems to be a Fenwick trait. The moods reflect the colors of the day, the feelings of the people, and the spirit of the school. Julie Green Treasurer Our class has come a long way in four years. As fresh- men we felt very proud and independent. The class then was more divided. Gradually we came to realize that we needed each other and by working together, we could really make things happen. It ' s something I hope every class can learn. Mr. John Farley Senior Class Advisor Mary Ellen Baker President Terryanne St. Pierre Vice-President Jill Healey Secretary Kathy Archer Kathleen Baillie Practically my whole life revolves around this place. The education that I ' ve received here is something to be valued. But, perhaps more important than that is what I have learned about life in general. I experienced a lot in four years at Fenwick and I ' m not saying that it ' s all been good — but even the bad things matter. I love this place and I really hate to leave. But when I do leave I ' ll take a lot with me and know that I ' ve made my mark on this school too. The friends I ' ve made, both teachers and stu- dents, have helped me become a more secure person both socially and academi- cally. Sure I have my ups and downs just like I would anywhere else, but the friend- liness, concern, and open-mindedness I ' ve found here always seem to make the hope- less hopeful, and the good times twice as good! Alfreida Manzi J £ Elizabeth Malone When I was a freshman I thought the seniors knew everything. Now that I ' m a senior I realize I ' ve learned a lot but it has only made me discover how much more there is to experience. Eileen McCabe Mary Jo McCarthy X Diane Preczewski Debra Quirk Diane Redican Paul Senechal Marilyn Shuko Anne Seaberg Most of my four years at Fenwick we looked ahead to college and jobs. Much of what we did was in preparation for the future. Now, after being accepted to college, the pressures are off and there is time to look back. I realize it is necessary to think of the future, but I wish we had lived more for the moment. One misses alot by living in the future. The important thing to remember is what they have given to each of us. It is not only the knowledge and skills that we have learned for which we should be grate- ful, but also the values, ideas, and experiences that they have passed on to us. Twenty years from now maybe we will not be able to remember that poem or recall the geometric theo- rems, but the person that each one of us will be will have been affected in some way by our encounters with the teachers here. We are not the oldest class in the school, yet we are not the youngest either. This year we can really feel a part of the school and the spirit that surrounds it. We are able to give of ourselves more freely now as our circle of friends has expanded and we are getting to know each other a little bit better. Mainly it is the people that make the sophomore class great — people with enthusiasm and spirit.
