FOOTBALL HISTCBY This year the Bishop England football team has accomplished what no other Bishop England football team has been able to do- finish the season with a perfect record. The undefeated Bishops overwhelmed 10 op- ponents in their seasonis course. Since last yearis defeat by Charleston High, our arch rival, the Bishops have won 18 consecutive games. In the first game of the season, the Green Wave had no trouble rolling over the St. Paul Pirates by a score of 20-0. Frankie Eaton was the big man in the Bishopis of- fense, scoring 2 of the 3 touchdowns, Tommy Vaught scored the other one. The entire middle of the Bishopis line was impregnable, holding the Pirates to no score. The Bishops avenged their one-point loss of last year by outplaying their arch rivals, Charleston High, in the second game of the season. A crowd of 5,000 fans saw the Ban- tams take a 6-point lead early in the first quarter. The Bishops came back in the first quarter to tie the game and later went on to win it 21-13. Frankie Eaton tallied for 2 of the 3 touchdowns, with Pug Ravenel going over for one. A large part of the credit for the win goes to the line, who held the Ban- tams down to only 2 touchdowns. After a weekls rest the Bishops traveled to Myrtle Beach where they wrapped up the 11th win. The Bishops tallied all of their 26 points in the first half. Bavenel took the honors by scoring 2 of the Bishops, 4 touch- downs. End Lipv LaTorre and Frankie Eaton scored the remaining two, LaTorre on a 25 yard dash after capturing a blocked punt. Frankie Eaton took the most exciting play by streaking 73 yards for the final touch- down. The Bishops easily beat the Carlisle Mili- tary Academy eleven 46-6. The Bishops scored in every period to win their fourth straight game of the season. The touch- downs were well distributed among the Bishops, with even a line man scoring. Buddy Sirisky, Ernie jones and jack Pitts played outstanding ball both offensively and defen- sively. The Bishops now traveled to Wade Hamp- ton for another victory, though missing one of their star players, Buddy Sirisky. Frankie Eaton again was the scoring demon to the Wade Hampton team, scoring 3 of the 6 touchdowns. Ravenel passed to LaTorre for one and ran the other across himself. The Bishops made it 13 straight. Sparked by their Pony Backs and strong line the Bishops won their 14th straight! Beating Lake City 32-0. The Bishops played in pouring rain, watched only by about 100 spectators. Each of the backs, Frankie Eaton, Pug Bavenel, Tommy Vaught, and Ernie jones. scored a touchdown, with La- Torre scoring in the last period. The Bish- ops held another of its opponents scoreless. The Bishops overwhelmed what was ex- pected to be their toughest opponent, by beating the Wfalterboro Wildcats 45-12, ex- tending their football winning streak to 16 straight. The Bishops scored in every period and the outcome was never in doubt after the opening minutes of the game. Bavenel con- tinued to spark the Creenies. He ran one of the touchdowns and passed three of the others. Ernie jones and Charles Collins- worth scored the final two touchdowns. The Bishops again went on the road, at Andrewis they played the Yellow Jackets. This was one of the Bishops, toughest games. The Bishops took advantage of two breaks to win the game by a score of 14-0. CAn- drewis threatened in the first quarter but a pass was interrupted to save the Bishopsj A pass from Bavenel to Tommy Finnegan and an intercepted fumble helped the Bish- ops on to another victory. At the Bishops, Homecoming game, they walloped the Moultrie Generals. Pug Bav- enel and Ernie jones led the Bishops to a 38-6 victory over the East-Cooper team. This was the Bishops, 17th straight win and left them only one game away from completing their first undefeated season. The hearts of the Bishop England rooting section were in their throats as they saw St. Andrewis outplay the Bishops in the first quarter of their last game. But the Bishops roared back in the second and third quarters to win. Eaton tallied for 5 of the 7 touch- downs. Bavenel and Vaught ran for the re- maining two. The Bishops placed 5 men on the News and Couricris All-Star Eleven. They are Jack Pitts, tackle and captain of the Bishops, Ernie Iones, guard, Bubba McMahon, fullback and tackle, VValter LaTorre, end, and Frankie Eaton, halfbaek, who is the countyis leading scorer.
