HISTORY At last we were really in high school! Yes, we were the freshmen of ,52. VVe had as- cended to the second floor and it was there that we labored over the noblest language of them alln and were bewildered by the l'XYZ'sv of algebra. During this year the school was deeply saddened by the death of our beloved founder, Father O,Brien. Coach Hank VV itt made his appearance at B. E. H. S. in 352. This was the man who was to produce some of the finest teams in the schoolis history. In our sophomore year we were being recognized a little more! We knew Latin a little better now, but we still were puzzled by algebra. The football team was improv- ing under the noble efforts of Coach Witt. Gur May Festival was a great success this year. But time passed quickly, and before we could get to the third floor, our sopho- more year had ended, still on the second floor. After our summer vacation Cwhich seemed all too shortl we returned to the hallowed halls of Bishop England as Juniors. VVe de- manded a little more respect from our under- classmen, and they graciously obliged. The C.Y.O. Canteen was established to the delight of all the school. This year we were busily engaged in the activities of practically every club in the school, and how we loved it! Banquets, conventions, dances came so fast we could hardly catch our breath, and at the junior-senior we smiled compassionately as we watched the seniors bid a tearful goodbye. All of a sudden we were seniors! The Class of 155. As we were caught in the whirl of club meetings, parties, and a mil- lion and one other activities, we had hardly noticed the year was almost over. We saw both our football and basketball teams go undefeated, and cheered the basketball team off to the tournament in Rhode Island. We received our class rings, struggled over our term papers, addressed invitations, and trembled as we prepared to take our final exams. WV e passed! Now comes our junior- senior, Class Night, and Graduation at the Cathedral-tears, laughter, and congratula- tions. And as we walk slowly down the aisle, we know that we shall always remem- ber Bishop England as the place where we gathered knowledge to prepare us for our life ahead and as a place where we had some wonderful aims. NVe hope that Bishop Eng- land will always remember the class of '53, and in turn we know that we shall never forget our years at B. E. H. S. R. R. tlzirty-one
