Basketball History tC0n'tD vears and were now attempting to make it three in a row. ln the first round the Bishops met a stubborn St. Iohn's team who gave them a hard time for a quarter, but after that the Bishops proved too much power in stripping them 80 to 35. Clair, Gorman, and Finnegan collected 17, 16, and 14 points respectively. This vic- tory made it now nineteen in a row. Bishop England versus Belmont Abbey. These two teams now playing in the finals had met twice before, both times in the finals, the Bishops winning both games, The Bishops had a prcttly rough time in topping the Ramblers but proved to we too much in stop Jing them T9 to 60 with Danny Rohlingf playing his lbest game. Rohling tore the cords up for seven free throws and seven field goals for a total 21 oints. The Bishops made it three years in a row to talge the revolving trophy home for good. This victory now made it number 20 in a row. Bevo,' Clair received the tournament,s most valu- able player award, with Eaton and Finnegan making the All-Tournament team. After the Tournament, the Bishops continued on with the regular season by stopping the Charles- ton High School Bantams 56 to 40, This was the third time this season that the Bishops had beaten the Bantams. The victory was due to the constant teamwork which proved to be the weapon most used by the Bishops all season. Twenty-one wins and no losses! Will they go un- defeated, or will Rivers get sweet revenge and snap the streak! It was close but the Bishops stopped the Bears in a thriller, 59 to 56. The same type game they played the First time except for the overtime. The Bish- ops made it 22 in a row and won the opinion of the fans as the best basketball team ever produced in this area and at the school. The Bishops were at their best, ninety-nine and no one could stop them. Francis Clair, Frank Eaton and Tommy Finnegan were the big men for the contest, each playing a very determined and consistent brand of ball. That pressure off, the Bishops had a breather', in taking the North Charleston Blue Devils 60 to 50. Tommy Finnegan collected 21 points to be high man for the game. This was victory number 2.3! Only one more left for the season, and they could make history by becoming the first undefeated basketball team in the history of the school. Well, they did what no other team could do in the Charleston area for the past decade of years. The Bishops were hard pressed in stopping the College of Charleston Frosh 50 to 42, wrap ming up a perfect season. After such a fine season, time boys won themselves a trip to Rhode Island to participate in the Eastern States Catholic lnvitational Tournament at Newport. They were without the services of their ace center, 'iBevo,' Clair, and were defeated by a more aggressive type of basketball. The boys made a pretty good show- ing, but not what they could have done, of cours:, playing their best, but thev were entirely outclassed. The Bishops were dropped by a red hot De LaSalle of Newport, 90 to 55. They put up a hard fight the Hrst half but were gradually worn down by the much taller opponents. They were not yet out of the running, though, lor they played in a consolation game in which they lost again, 76 to 52 to Central Catholic of Pitts- burgh. They boys lived up to their reputation of always bringing home the bacon, however. The team won the Sportsmanship award for exemplary conduct on the floor and off the iioorf and Manager Buddy Sirisky with his Golden Horn received an entertainment trophy. The Miscellany extends most sincere congratulations to all those on the team-and heartfelt thanks to all the supporters who helped the Bishops make their trip to Rhode Island. B. S.
