Since that time, the young congregation has grown rap- idly, and in a relatively short time, has spread to almost all over the world. Their first school in America was founded in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1906. The spread of the Oblates in Amer- ica has been phenomenal. The main work of the Oblates in the United States has been the Christian education of youth. Advice, encouragement, and correction are the tools they use in chipping, shaping and molding character. They lead their students to knowledge and hope, thereby, that will ignite a spark of interest and open a challenge to their students' latent intellectual abilities. Their own dedication is the mainspring of the wonderful spirit that exists here at Bishop Duffy a RELIGIOUS FACULTY 7 r --..,,i I 1 2 Rev. Edward S. Chrzanowski, O.S.F.S. STUDENT COUNCIL Q The student govemment of the school is invested in the members of the Student Council. Its President is elected by the majority vote of the student body while the other members are chosen by the students of each section. These officers are the connecting link between the faculty and the student body. They are appointed only on the approval of the Rector. The Student Coun- cil plays an important part in the promotion of school spirit by organizing drives and by encouraging partici- pation in all activities. It is not a law making body, but has a great influence in the government of the school Q Left to right: John Lupisella, ex-presidenlg Fr. FATHERS' CLUB a The Men's Club, under the capable guidance of its faculty moder- ator, Father Garvey, has initiated many new projects throughout the course of the school year. Well to be remembered was the successful Homecoming Weekend. Other events included the Father and Son Communion Breakfast as well as the Christmas Dinner Dance. Our "Dads" have always taken an active interest in all our activities whether it be sports, socials, or even everyday happenings. Both they and the Mothers' Club have accomplished much towards our ad- vancement here at Bishop Duffy. The Oblates and we ourselves are grateful to them Q 18 Exempliiication of criminal tactics. Perhaps we best describe them as our unsung heroes. Under the able leadership of its president, Mrs. Russell Lobuzzetta, our Mothers' Club has sponsored many well worthwhile projects, among which was the never to be forgotten Falls Fashion Show. COLOSI 9810 Moschel Ct. 1301 Roselle Ave. Prince of Peace Sl- Tefesll SENIOR CLASS o It was a clear, bright day that September morning of 1960 when a group of young lads matriculated at Bishop Duffy and began a happy and successful career as high school students. In their four year stay at Duffy, they grew in stature as well as in mind. In the final tabulation 120 of these young lads graduated as young men with a deep, sincere gratitude for all that was given them for an institution that taught them so much. Studies and the classroom certainly do not make up a school, nor do they make up the life of these men. A1- though they studied and worked hard, they had plenty of time to relax and be themselvesg this is when they showed what they were "made off' A spirit of unity was brought forth when it was called forg a spirit of pride of being a Duffy man was found when times looked tryingg a spirit of truth came through when it was asked ofg a spirit of love excelled when people thought it was gone. These are what held the class of N6-4" togetherg these are the characteristics that made it a class unparalleled by any other. It is the hope of all these fine men and citizens to carry on their superb work and always remember their tenure at Bishop Duffy, one which has profited the school and the individuals o MW ALFRED J. The motto of these dedicated men, "To Jesus through Mary." .lm Fr. Francis Dougherty O.S.F.S., Retreat Master 84 RETREAT 0 Reconciliation and repense, these are the attitudes of the students when the annual Retreat embodies the spirit of Bishop Duffy. Reconciliation with God forruns its year round attitude of "necessity" to create a feeling of true contrition for sin. Next follows reconciliation with fellow man which takes on a true meaning of Christ's teaching. All feelings of embarrassment are placed secondary to the importance of facing fellow man with honesty and a clean heart. Last but most important of all comes reconciliation with self. A stu- dent frankly admits his guilt, feeling perhaps a little shame in not having the courage to face up to realityg but above this, feeling the true happiness in knowing that he is capable of the responsibilities of a man. We warmly thank our Alma Mater for presenting to us the opportunity for maturing us not only intellectu- ally, but also in the eyes of our Creator o JAN UAR ....-J Mrs. Silvestri gets into the act.
