Preparation starts IIOW The building of a strong body and a sound mind forms the base from which our life develops. Constructing this foundation is a job of great importance to the faculty members involved in the P.E. and Safety Ed. departments at BHS. Teacher Walt Edge stated, ln Safety Education we attemt to prepare students to be a part of the large motoring public, which they will be dealing with for the rest of their lives. This idea of preparing students to deal with a public from now on is what makes the skills learned in these classes major factors in the outcome of one's future. Training a mind to think defensively and strengthening a body to uphold conditions play an important part in helping one become a contributing body in society. Dorothy Proffitt performs one of many projects during Biology ll. l Here we go rescheduling the program Oh no, not again! Converting from seven classes to six classes brings cutbacks in several areas. Mr. Charlie Ham was one of few to be affected by this change. I used to have just P.E. classes, but now I have Earth Science and only one P.E. class, stated Ham. Although Mr. Ham is now accustomed to the change, he prefers having more physical education classes. Variety also entered the math department. Two computers were available for the students' use compared to the original one. Mr. Ron Olander, computer teacher. commented, Having two computers permitted me to teach the students more about the language of computers. I also help students not involved in the computer class to broaden their understanding. Basic Science was dropped from schedules this year, but l.P.S., Earth Science, Biology I, Biology ll, Chemistry, and Physics remained. Elementary Algebra and Basic Math also vanished from the scene. Incoming freshmen had an opportunity to choose from General Math and Algebra I. Advanced courses included Geometry, Algebra ll, Computers, and Advanced Math. Faculty 95
