Students are aware of the world affairs going on under their feet but their feet don't seem to be able to stand still long enough to become quite as engulfed in the business news as their parents. The younger generation has become so involved in just being involved. Entertainment is the biggest and most popular pasttime. Whether it's Marty and Donna's date at the show or a group of friends listening to Brian's new Queen album is not what is really important. The point we're about to arrive at is kids feel they have to be constantly entertained. l've heard a variety of reasons applying to that supposition from 'life in Bisbee is a drag' and music makes it bearable' to a more acceptable answer, 'entertainment is a way of life for the young generation. Through experience I can truly say money doesn't go far in this world but l stood in a line that was at-least a block long to lay down my four bucks to see Urban Cowboy. l have also saved many a paycheck to spend a weekend in Tucson for one reason . . . The Kansas concert was going to raise the roof at TCC. ls it the people of this billion dollar industry or the thrill we acquire from their performances that keeps us screaming for more? Whichever it may be is what has made the actors and musicians the kings and queens of the entertainment empire. The reign of such individuals is determined by their most difficult critics - the youth of America. ln the sixties screaming girls helped to raise Elvis to the top. This example has been paralleled in the eighties by an extreme fondness for John Travolta. No matter how personalities of the performing world acquire their status, they are the most important figures in the world of amusement. Student Life 83
