Something new for BHS tennis teams Something new on the scene was one coach for both boys and girls varsity and one coach for J.V. Mr. Curt McKale was the varsity coach. When asked if coaching both varsities would be difficult, Mr. McKale said. used to coach both boys and girls before and we were state champs. According to him. ul with a lot of hard work l hoped for a strong girls varsity. The boys had only a varsity team with two returning players. Chris Vertrees. a returning player, hoped to go to state playoffs but according to him, we're young and have a lot of first year players. Speaking for the girls varsity, Trish Vega felt, the team will do very well this year and l hope we can beat Miami. Carmen Caudill coached the J.V. and commented, we've got lots of ability on the girls J.V. for a super strong varsity next year. Coach looked for a 3rd place finish Key positions played an important role in the hopeful success of the young Bisbee Puma ball club. Among the positions were pitching, in which the dimondmen worked very hard. Losing most of the pitching staff to graduation last year caused the ball club to rebuild in this area. lf key positions come around we should be tough in the A South Conference, stressed Coach Frosco as he looked ahead into the '8l season. Teams such as Sahuarita, last year's state champs, San Manuel, and Willcox will be among the strong teams the ball club will meet. Looking past these obstacles, Coach Frosco was looking for a 3rd place finish in the A South Conference. The Bisbee dimondmen had 9 returning Lettermen for the season. Among them were Floyd Gregory and Allen Krause. Floyd, who came into the season with a batting average of .424, had an honorable mention in the League. Allen Krause, who made Ind team Conference, aided the Pumas at shortstop. Also with the young ball club were many upcoming JV ball players and three freshmen, The freshmen, Jaime Hirales, Sid Serrano, and Jimmy Soriano, aided the ball club in various positions such as catcher and outfield. Looking forward to a 6-4 record, which was enough to go to state, Coach Frosco was hoping for the Key positions to come around for a great season. uf' Varsity shortstop Alan Krause loosens up his arm at an early season practice.
