PRI CIPALS
Mr. Fischer, the assistant principal of Birney
was born in Detroit and has lived in this area
throughout his life. He attended Eastern Michi-
gan University. In the midst of his work there,
Mr. Fischer went into the army and was sent to
England. While there he continued his studies.
On returning to the United States, he finished his
education at Eastern Michigan. He received his
M.A. degree in administrative education. As far
as Mr. Fischer's life at Eastern Michigan goes,
he played football and was an active member of
an honor fraternity. In addition, he was the presi
dent of both his freshmen and senior classes.
After finishing his education, Mr. Fischer
married. He now has two children: Brad,,age
three, and Lorie, age one and a half.
Mr. Clyde Fischer has been in the Southfield
Public School System since 1956. Five of those
eight years have been spent here at Birney. A
few of the many important jobs that Mr. Fischer
is responsible for include discipline, budgeting,
and scheduling.

Mr Bandalene
Mr Bandalene felt hrs frrst closeness to chrl
dren when he at the age of 19, was ln the service
ln Chma He received an assrgnment to smuggle
fourteen parentless Chrnese chrldren Cages 4 111
from a mrssron rn an area rnfested wrth japanese
to the beautrful clty of Hsra For the frrst 112
mrles they floated down the Hwang Ho rn a boat
and then started off on foot They traveled twen
ty one mrles rn three days and three nrghts lrvmg
off of the land because they could not carry food
or beddrng
Even though he could not understand therr
language Mr Bandalene got to know each of the
chrldren well They called hrm Soldrer of the
Beautrful Country Later he vrsrted them at
Hsra
When he came back to the U S , he traveled
awhlle and rn 1949 went to college He attended
Oklahoma A 8: M, Bradley Tech, and ln 1951,
graduated from Wayne State. For the next ten
years Mr. Bandalene taught rn Detro1t. He hap
pened to bowl rn the same league as Mrss Branch.
She told hrm about Brrney School and rn 1961 he
came to Brrney for hrs present job.
