HILLTOP JTROM its lofty site atop Enon Ridge, Birmingham-Southern Col- lege surveys the city of Birmingham, and looks as it is, a monument to higher and finer education in Alabama — education that not only fits the prospective man or woman technically to lead a successful and happy life, but teaches him the all-important business of how to live. The foundation stones of this theory of liberal arts education are the faculty of the college, an ever-willing group of men and women who practice what they preach, and live with the student as well as teach him. It is no uncommon sight to see faculty mem- bers and students in the cafeteria, smoking an after dinner cigarette and engaging in a violent argument where all professorial dignity is dropped and the talk is man-to-man. It is this attitude of informality in student-prof(?§sDf relation- ship which makes for the success of the liberal art§
