,,L.L,,.L .. W - ' ,:,f,,i'-,M Sf' -- f mcg iff -, V,,,,.3-.K J1 North High School stands today as one of the leading schools in our state. All that we enjoy has come about through teamwork and high ideals of service. Our faculty led by our former Principal, H. Earle Weaver, developed with a loyal student body a spirit that won for the school great achievements. Those of us who served with Mr. Weaver are grateful for his able leadershipl Always, his goal was to look out forthe best interests of North High. His spirit of cheerful service is very much alive in the life of the school. His example will con- tinue to be a challenge to all of us to keep North moving forward to new goals. My wish for North is that we shall always keep North a friendly school where teamwork between faculty and students in our classrooms and our activities pays valuable dividends. We are a large family. That means we must share in keeping the school an attractive place in which to work. Large families often have deep loyalties. Older brothers and sisters help create those loyalties. Each term we have new sopho- mores who look to our upper classmen for leadership. Seniors who have become our top writers, athletes, actors and musicians as well as students set the pace for new members of our student body. An active senior class is a must in a school as large as ours. Looking to the future my aim is to conserve the energy and skills of our faculty so they may do their best for North. By safeguarding their best interests the wel- fare of the school will be served. As demands for new activities arise we shall do our best to be alert to sponsor them. Through activities students are tied into school life. They have a good feel- ing that they are doing something that counts. Good school spirit grows from a healthy activity program. North means to keep alive its school spirit. For this Wampum we are grateful. Here is another example of teamwork and loyalty. Congratulations to the staff and its loyal advisor, Mr. Webster Haight, for a fine contribution to North. 7 g1 grv,,1,.1,-y V. u , A Q V. , , Why, ,K ,, .13

0960 fion To Miss Gertrude O'Connor, one of North's first and best, the 1953 Wampum is dedicated. While she is ill her absence makes us realize more than ever just how dependent on her we are. We know Miss O'Connor as our teacher, one with a fervor for making history live, and an ability to do so. We know her as our advisor when we are confronted by the problems that we high school students have to face. And we know her as our friend always. She has proved this again and again inthe past -- as sponsor of Honor Society, as advisor for Student Council, and as guest speaker for Lit Club. We, the members of the staff of this book, wish to express with the rest of the student body and faculty at North, our sin- cere hope that she will be back with us very soon. fl 6
