I 0 0 H. EARL WEAVER, Principal It seems impossible, but it is true, that many of the present students were not born when North High School was conceived. I remember that., when I was asked to be its principal, I was delighted to lay the plans for this school and its student body. I have always felt that our slogan The Friendly School is deserved because few schools have the pleasant relations between faculty and students that we have at North High School. The terraces are now all filled in at North. On my first visit to the school, I had to climb an eighteen-foot ladder to get in the front entrance. I also remember when it was necessary to climb the scaffolding for the gymnasium plastering in order to point out the place where the basketball brackets might be hooked on. Most of all I think I remember the students who have graduated from North and the teachers with whom I have been privileged to work. Our nickname The Indians was not unearned. The Indian motif had been set for the school. We were then fortunate enough to have Mr. Robert Redman as our first football coach, and his name further established our nickname. I remember the people who participated in World War II-boys we knew inti- mately who were sacrificed for an ideal. The bricks and concrete do not make a school, they merely house it. The students and teachers working together for the good of each other make up a school. If North High School continues- as the friendly school,', our tradition will be easily maintained, and our service to the community will be more than adequate. 7

l E We remember that we got to know many of our teachers outside the classroom. Clubs, sports, and other extra-curricular activities were spon- sored by them. Many times we were pleasantly surprised that teachers, too, are humans. And so we list a few of the places where we met our teach- ers on something other than the scholastic level.
