'IHLU HH MISS HARRIS As in all classes, fhe main purpose of fhe girls' physical educafion program was fo develop fhe mind along wifh fhe body. Af fhe beginning of fhe school year, mosf of fhe classes enfhusiasfically be- gan fhe course by a series of soffball games. Soon, however, fhe weafher forced fhem inside fo begin fheir indoor classes. The firsf of fheir proiecfs was learn- ing fhe various dance sfeps, which fhey puf info use in fheir weekly co-educafion classes. The nexf obiecfive was fo sfraighfen fhe girls' posfure. This, of course, resulfed in a series of exercises which were hard, buf loads of fun. In some classes, if was a class proiecf for each girl fo presenf and demonsfrafe fo fhe resf of fhe class a differenf exercise. The fhird proiecf was fo learn how fo plan a successful parfy. Such games as volleyball were fhen faken up, followed by soccer ball, field ball, and baskefball. The compefifion in fhe fournamenfs of fhese games became keen as all fhe girls were eager fo win, and willing fo play hard. Under +he direcrion of Mr. Penrod proiecfs in wood, plasiic and sheei' mefal were worked upon, formed and pre- sen+ed as a las+ing lesiimony of +he skill +ha+ can be achieved wi'rh 'rhe proper guidance. Along wi+h +he wood and mefal working classes, ins+ruc+ions were given in elec+rici+y and lea+her working. Running abreasi of The woodworking class was +he au1'omo+ive class, under +he direcfion of Boss Hauschnecf. In 'rhis class +he aufomobile was figura'rively and liferally 'rorn aparr and pui' +oqe+her again. Each par+ of fhe aufomobile was examined 'For use, wear and care. BOY ATHLETICS MR. McGHlE The building of bodies, minds, morals, elhics and general school ouflook was fhe goal of 'lhe boys' a'rhle+ic class. Various mefhods of body building were employed during gym periods. While in +he gym, volleyball, baskelball, 'rumbling and marching were used as acfivilies. Wi+h The wea+her permiffing, soffball, 'rrack and fouch foofball were enjoyed ou+ of doors. Classes o'rher +han fhose held in +he gym were: physical educalion, 'For +he orien'ra+ion of a boy and his body, and Hs care, and courfship and marriage, dealing wi+h differences, similarifies, and relafionships belween +he male and female. The combining of +he 'rwo was found in +he form of co-educafion, held each Monday in each gym class. During +his class new dances were +augh+ +o +he mixed boys and girls, and each one was worked ouf by 'rhe group.
