Mrs. Sue Hutton, Mr. Gus Nash Mr. Earl C. Collins Administrators Influence Student Life Deans are people who listen to your problems, make helpful suggestions (which almost always solve the problems) and measure out discipline when it is needed. Contrary to popular belief, deans are human beings with hearts and feelings. They buy school sweatshirts and spudnuts, and they enjoy basketball games as much as the students do (though their response is more sub- dued). Mrs. Sue Hutton and Mr. Gus Nash are more than just deans; they’re your friends. Definition of two guidance counselors; While one is explaining the SAT and PSAT to a confused college- bound student, the other is efficiently examining each of the 1600 students' folders in order to make school life pleasant and worthwhile for every student. Mrs. Marietta Peters and Mr. John Bills guide our foot- steps into the future. A vice principal has as many jobs and as much respon- sibility as a principal himself. It is the duty of Mr. Earl C. Collins to know where every student is every hour of every school day (he’s in charge of attendance) and he appoints teacher chaperones for school activities. 20

Mr. C. E. Borberg is the man directly responsible for the function of the school. Before accepting the position of principal Mr. Borberg taught chemistry at BHS. For nine years he has carried out the regula- tions of Mr. Gallagher and the School Board. In a typical day Mr. Borberg’s problems range from super- vising the functions of the school, scheduling assemblies, filling out reports and forms, to the storage of a popcorn machine in an overcrowded school, to presenting the Billings West High annual staff a new press camera. Principal Borberg Heads B.H.S. 19

A secretary is one who (1) types out forms and PA announcements, (2) supervises the O.D. Club, (3) runs off attendance slips, (4) takes some of the pressure off the Principal and Vice Principal, (5) answers the phone, (6) makes appointments for Mr. Borberg, (7) (Oops, the annual staff ran out of space to finish telling you of the hundreds of jobs that the secretaries do during one day at the office.) SEATED: Vera Swanson. STANDING: Judy Slowinski. Secretaries and Librarians Keep Books Left: Elza Huffman (librarian, KOB) A librarian is one who knows the Dewey decimal system. Miss Huffman, BHS librarian, is in charge of a vast collection of books and periodicals. She helps students find material for reports, essays and themes and has ar- ranged the library so anyone can easily find a book. 24
