The Men Behind the School Essential to the school district of any community is the smooth running and efficient school board. This group of men sets up policies for the schools in the district to follow. They also carry out the recommendations of their superintendent. Our board is compiled of men from varied backgrounds and professions in order to serve us according to our needs. A. L. LaBar, Chairman of the Board, is in the insurance business; M. R. Colberg is an accountant; Archie Cochrane is an automobile dealer; Norman Hansen is a lawyer; James Mc- Bride is an optometrist; H. N. Sell owns and operates a lawn and garden center; and J. W. West is a realtor. Merle C. Gallagher has been the successful advisor of the district for nearly 24 years. In addition to supervising 19 grade schools, 3 junior highs, and BHS, Mr. Gallagher now has the responsibility of the new Billings West High.

Mr. C. E. Borberg is the man directly responsible for the function of the school. Before accepting the position of principal Mr. Borberg taught chemistry at BHS. For nine years he has carried out the regula- tions of Mr. Gallagher and the School Board. In a typical day Mr. Borberg’s problems range from super- vising the functions of the school, scheduling assemblies, filling out reports and forms, to the storage of a popcorn machine in an overcrowded school, to presenting the Billings West High annual staff a new press camera.
