M. C. Gallagher Superintendent of Schools Blr. Merle C. Gallagher first became superintendent of School District No. 2 in july of 1937, and since that time has had the overall responsibility for all the schools in his district. This task which he so effi- ciently performs has been called the largest job in Billings. Technically, the policies of the school are set by the school board. and Mr. Gallagher is the executive officer. Among his many responsibilities are the recruiting of capable administrators and teachers, helping to prepare the school budget. and determining school zones based upon the school census. School District No. 2 Officials F ace Many Problems Charles E. Borberg Principal This is llr. Charles E. Borberg's seventh year as principal of Billings Senior High. Previously. he taught chemistry in this school. Klr. Borberg is the administrative head of the school, and as such he is responsible for the carrying out of all academic and cafeteria activities. Among his countless duties, he constructs the teaching sched- ule, makes teacher assignments, supervises the calendar of dates for all school events, and is in charge of the enrollment, registration, and sched- uling of each student. Collins Dean of Girls Dean oi Boys A Dean's Work ls Never Doneg Each Day Brings Its Problems As deans, Mrs. Sue Hutton and Klr. liarl Col- lins work with the students daily. trying to help each girl and boy do well in school. Keeping attend- ance records, counseling and listening to problems. giving college recommendations, and giving disci- plinary action when necessary are just a few of the manv important jobs they do each day. Mr. Collins is also in charge of the 1500 lockers. the issuing of caps and gowns. and the school dances and assists the principal. As sponsors of the senior counselors, the deans help this group in every way possihle with suggestions and advice. PAGE 27
