OFFICIALS FACE MANY PROBLEMS . . construction abreast of ever increasing enrollment It is estimated that the highschool enrollment will increase until in ten years, the number will he 3,629-nearly double what it is at the present time. Therefore. Sl.550,000 of this bond issue has been set aside for the new highschool alone. Klr. Xlerle C. Gallagher first became superin- tendent of School District No. 2 in 1937. Mr. Gallagher supervises the educational program for this district, He is also in charge of the budget for operation of the schools. teacher personnel. and other similar jobs. The district clerk and business manager for the school board is llr. Edward Lacklen. He handles Mr. Willard R. Wallace Administrative Assistant Superintendent of Schools Last July Mr. Willard YVallace was appointed administrative assistant superintendent of schools. Nlr. YVallace's main job is doing things and going places which save Nlr. Gallagher, superintendent of schools. time. Since the school bond issue which approved the construction of a new highschool was passed, Blr. XVallace has been working with the architects. lVIr. VVallace had been a Billings Senior High- school faculty member and adviser of Student Council. the business affairs, writes the minutes of the meet- ings. takes care of correspondence, and bills. On April 5 voters approved an elementary school levy and a highschool levy. Also. in this school elec- tion Archie M. Cochrane. Alem L. LaBar, and X, H. Sell were elected to the school board. Outgoing school board members were Verlon Cox, who did not seek re-election, and Richard Burns. who was transferred. Other members on the board are Nlaurice R. Colberg, Norman Hanson. James Xlcliride. and John VV. Xvest.
