 To Shepherd the flock is a work of love. is the motto of the newly installed fourth Bishop of Great Falls, Most Rev. Eldon Bernard Schuster, D.D. Bishop Schuster virtually a native of Montana, though he was born in North Dakota. He received his elementary and secondary education in Montana schools, and has ser- ved the diocese since his ordination in Great Falls, May 27, 1937. His positions in the diocese include assistant pastor, vice chancellor, secretary to Bishop Condon and chancellor. The new Bishop's other position include three firsts : First diocesan superintendent of schools, first Auxiliary Bishop of Montana and now first native of the diocese to be its Bishop. Study at Ox- ford, a Doctorate in education from St. Louis Univer- sity and attending some sessions of Vatican II, coupled with his experiences and positions in the diocese pro- vide good background for shepherding the flock as a work of love. He was installed January 23, 1968 at St. Ann's Cathedral in Great Falls. Spirit Of The Servants Of The Servants Of God Mark Bekken greets Bishop Schuster at the reception in the Bishop's honor.

Rt. Reverend Monsignor James J. Donovan was pastor of St. Patrick's Parish, Billings from 1962 un- til his sudden and unexpected death in Great Falls on January 23, 1968. Monsignor Donovan was ordain- ed in Great Falls, Montana May 21, 1932, he earned three degrees at the Catholic University of America, became President of the College of Great Falls in 1940, and Bishop Condon's Vicar General in August 1943. Named a Monsignor in 1947 and titled Pro- thonatory apostolic in 1964. In addition to religious and educational activities Monsignor Donovan was interested in social welfare, sports and writing religious articles. The most Reverend William J. Condon D.D. 1895-1967 third Bishop of Great Falls served the diocese for 28 years. He was ordained October 14, 1917 in Spokane where he became Vicar Gen- eral in 1933 an a Monsignor in 1937. He was named Bishop of Great Falls on August 5, 1939. As Bishop he appointed the first Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, opened 23 new parishes and conducted an extensive Building program throughout the Diocese. In Life And Death They Lead The Church In The Concelebrating the Mass with Bishop Eldon Bernard Schuster (center) at his reception in Billings are the Billings pastors. They are Father Lnoph O.M.I., Guadalupe; Father Gilhouly, Chaplain of St. Vincent's Hospital; Father Gergen, Holy Rosary; Monsignor Zarek, St. Patrick's; Father Powers, St. Thomas; Father Dillon O.M.I., Little Flower; (not pictured) Father Bezdecik, St. Pius X; Servers, (in back) Father Dimke, Administrator St. Leo's, Lewistown, and Father Houlihan, Holy Rosary.
