W7e usually derive great pleasure in watching our teams win, however, winning is a mere fortune of the game. The fact that the team and its fans remain loyal is the most important thing and the girls this year have made themselves the pride and joy of B.M.H.S. Although Dame Fortune did not smile on our girls this year, the spirit of the team and their loyal followers was not dampened. The following is a resume of four years. Camou- flaged behind these facts and figures on our totem pole are the real reasons for ultimate success, maid- ens and warriors with a sense of duty to tribe and town. Commencing our high school career was all the more confusing, intriguing, and delightfully differ- ent because of our unfamiliarity with our modern facilities. Under the advisorship of Mrs. Houghton and Mr. Merrifield, and the leadership of officers: William Lavery, Pres., Dorothy Gaudet, Vice-pres., Jacque- line Lee, Sec., and Barbara Rounds, Treas., we spon- sored our first social, Record Roundup. Breaking precedent, Donna Turner and Dot Gau- det, both Freshmen, were chosen to head the cheer- leaders in their senior year. Soon after selecting our Sophomore officers: Pat Collins, Pres., Dot Gaudet, Vice-pres., Gladys Mc- Ginness, Sec., Barbara Rounds, Treas., we gathered stalks and pumpkins and decorated for the Har- vest Hop. The possibility of having a Student Council was discussed and made a reality in the Spring of '57, Four of our classmates, Bill Lavery, Pat Collins, Karyn Hansis, and Diane Desrosiers were elected to serve the following year on Billerica High's first Council. Poised and ready to strike a bull's eye of success, we Juniors selected Pres., VVilliam Lavery, Vice-pres., David Barrelle, Sec., Patricia Collins, Treas., Barbara Rounds. Choosing a class ring posed a problem which was soon solved in the selecting of a Balfour Company and a modern piece of handicraft. The Beacon Light Chapter of the National Honor Society was formed in the middle of the year with 16 of our members elected and presented with pins. In November, a sellout review, The Kickoff, was presented. Thanksgiving Day was an important one indeed, game with Chelmsford and Victory Dance with trophies awarded. The most important social event of our high school life, our Junior Prom, Moonlight Melody, was chairmanned by Claire Caissie. YVe'll not forget Queen Carol Roy and her princesses: Diane Des- rosiers. Gladys McGinness, Gloria Lohnes, Dianne Lorden, Roberta Farwell, and Marilyn Martell. From our Seniors sage and superior we chose as officers, VVil1iam Lavery, Pres., David Barrelle, Vice- pres., Dorothy Gaudet, Sec., Barbara Rounds, Treas., our lVannaIancct, under the advisorship of Mr. Cares was organized, the cast of Date Bait began re- hearsing, and we were on our way. A meritous football season which was a zenith of skill, sportsmanship and school spirit came to a jubilant ending in the Turkey Day triumph over the Chelmsford Lions. The Mistletoe Hop, the Christmas dance spon- sored by the Smoke Signal was highlighted by the crowning of B.M.H.S.'s first Snow Queen, Dolly McGinness. Our Senior Prom was set for the ominous date Friday, February 13, but not pessimistic were our chairman, Claire Caissie and the many couples who attended VVinter Mlonderland. In a land of silver, white, blue and green, Donna Turner reigned as Queen, whose court consisted of Gladys McGinness, Diane Desrosiers, Gloria Lohnes, Barbara Piper, Ka- ryn Hansis, and Diane Lorden, In February, the girls varsity squad and the Sen- ior cheerleaders traveled to the Ashby Tourney and put another feather in our band by bringing home nine trophies-good sportsmanship trophy, finals tro- phy and others. Our four years have been composed of many emotions and experiences, the excitement of cheering our teams to victory, the eagerness of awaiting a big dance, tenseness before report cards, the gaiety of Tri Delta parties and trips. With memories like elephants, we won't forget for many moons: Chuck's penny jar, the victory rides after our football wins, pajama parties, locker room conferences and pranks, night rehearsals for the shows, the braving of the elements to get ads, the inspiring Christmas scenes in the lobby and the pageants. VVe, the largest class to graduate and the first to have gone four years through B.M.H.S., smoke the last peace pipe on the reservation, add ourselves to the totem pole and crush the smokey embers of a campfire. We Seniors hope that we proved ourselves by loy- ally serving and doing all that time and opportunity allowed. We regret our leaving these happy hunting grounds but we'll be proud to say that we are gradu- ates of B.M.H.S. and to tell our story- a success story. l 1 , I F4 l '11 - --Q.
