We feel that our class has been very fortu- nate in having attended both the old high school and the new one. Because of this we can fully appreciate the h y many assets and improvements our MR' ADAMS-P 'mpal new high school offers to each student. None of these improvements, however, could be possible without the sincere friendliness and cooperation that you and the members of our faculty have always shown toward us. Through your tireless effort and guidance we will leave Billerica Memorial High School with the confidence that the new goals we have set will be successful ones. As we the class of 1958 leave Billerica Me- morial High School we can't help but look back with happiness on our four memorable years. Now leaving. it seems like only yesterday that we entered as freshmen at Howe High School. Since we believed there was safety in numbers we ar- rived in a happy but fearful group. Our fears were soon calmed by the friendly atmosphere of the school and thexfvarm welcome of the faculty. As our first taste of high school life we attended a football rally, and continued throughout the season to support our winning team. Later on both boys and girls tried out for basketball. Many were successful in making the teams. Then as the warmer days of spring came. baseball and softball were the main interests of the sports enthusiasts. VVith spring in our hearts we were filled with excitement and gaiety as we planned our first class activity, a spring dance. Our freshman year came to a close with the celebration of the three hundredth anniversary of our town. an event in which many of us partici- pated. September of 1955 markedathe beginning of our sophomore year and the opening of the new Billerica Memorial High School. Though we had had a year of high school, we found ourselves once again bewildered and lost, since the school was so large and new. However, our activities came easily, including the familiar round of games, rallies. and dances. Although there were longer hours with more serious study, the days were made more enjoyable by the recorded music in our pleasant new cafeteria. The highlight of our social life, our Jingle Bell Ball, came in late win- ter. Another important event was the Bleacher Fund Drive and dance, supported by the students. faculty and townspeople. Our sophomore year came to a close with many of us planning for summer jobs. Now entering as juniors, reaching the half way mark, we felt we really -were part of the school. Another symbol of our belonging was the arrival of our class rings. Sports once again took up a lot of our time. and in an effort to further sports activities. Coach Lampson originated the Penny Jar . Our activities were not limited to sports. however. To start the winter season. the Dramatic Club presented the Christmas Pageant. This was followed by L'Pot Luck and Hill Billy Hi-Jinksn. The biggest event of our three years took place in May. This was our junior Prom, Touch of Spring , at which Cathy Grappi was elected queen. The more serious side of our school life was represented by the organizing of a student govem- ment. One of our own class members, Richard McElhinney, was chosen as President to serve in the following year. On returning to school, we in turn elected our class officers. We chose Robert Knowles as Presi- dent, John Farmer as Vice President, Joyce Lee as Secretary and Claire Dubois as Treasurer. These able people helped us greatly as we reached the last and most exciting year of our high school career. The year started off with a very successful record hop sponsored by the Cheerleaders. This brought about much school spirit for the coming football season. To add to the excitement a min- strel show, The Kick-Off was held for the public. Then on the day before our annual Thanksgiving day football game with Chelmsford, it was held again for the students. Also on that day the Cheerleaders held their annual football rally. Now the Big Day was here. We put on our green and white and headed for the football field. The game started and the pep squad cheered the team on. As the game progressed. we saw how hard the boys were fighting for victory. Although we lost by points it proved to be a moral victory. That night everyone attended the foot- ball dance. Trophies were awarded to the out- standing play43rs of the year. The football ban- quet was given to the players and the Cheerleaders bv the Billerica Businessman's Club. At Christmas we celebrated the season with our Tri Delta Hop and Pageant. Then basketball season was here and once again the school spirit reigned, as we saw our teams go through a success- ful season. Now on the eve of our Senior Prom, Sweet- heart Serenadef' all our memories seem more vivid as we realize that graduation is approaching. This is not only a time for memories. but a time for looking ahead to college and jobs. In considering these plans. we come to appreciate the guidance and inspirations that our teachers have given us. especially that of our class advisor, Mrs. McGee. Now as we leave. grateful for our excel- lent background, we can go forward into our future careers with confidence. xg 4 X Q v if f AQ X K i l EZ4 If 4 IQ' W M W X Q W W Ny K x 5 Q2 f 4 l X L ty MOST PO PU LAR ' x Barbara Egan MAN HATER K 1 I K X x BEST LOOKING Judy ' len X 1 35 CLASS WORKERS Ca Snowdon Johnny Soule ,lgx I BEST DANCERS Mary Bagrowski Dick MCElhinney Richard Treffrey L CUTEST 'C - yn Hester David Solo I x , ,' .n- .
