One which will be instrumental in providing the crew with a solid foundation and positive direction throughout the ship's lifetime .... Minutes ago BIDDLE was merely an in- animate object without ufe. Now she has LIFE, SPIRIT, PERSONALITY! Our SPIRIT, our PERSONALITY! We are BIDDLE .... While we are in the Navy, regardless of the length of time - a year or thirty years - the Navy is our profession. We must strive to meet the high standards set by our profession .... Thus, we who are BIDDLEMEN today, and those who will be in the future, Icharge you--us--to the task of meeting the standards of our Navy, the task of being PROFESSIONAL Seamen . . . . Captain Maylon T. Scott, USN BIDDLE is Captain Scott's fourth command. In previous years, he was Commander of Destroyer Division Twenty-Two and skipper of the Destroyer Leader MITSCHER and the Destroyer Escort OTTERSTETTER. Captain Scott also served as Chief of Staff for Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Flotilla Two. In 1963 he was on the staff of the Chief of Naval Personnel's Plans and Policy Division. ln 1964, Captain Scott was graduated from the Naval War College and George Washington University with a Master's Degree in Foreign Affairs. ,Q In 1943, Captain Scott was graduated from the' Naval Academy, class of 1944. During WW Il, the Captain began his career aboard the Destroyer HULL and saw action at Wake Island, Guam, Saipan and Tinian. In between then and now, Captain Scott also served aboard USS ORLECK fDD886J, USS CURTISS QAV-4j, and was Executive Officer of USS BEGOR QAPD 1277 and USS MARSH QDE 6993. In his rare moments of idle time, the Captain plays golf, tennis, squash and even Monopoly. He is a fierce -competitor in each. Late in the night, he corresponds with friends and associates all over the world. And when he has guests for dinner, he always says the Grace.
