The Executive Officer Commander Allen Smith Ill, USN While crossing the Continental Divide in the Panama Canal, Lieutenant Commander Smith officially relieved Commander Robert L. Brown as Exec. Four months later, he was awarded a coveted spot promotion to Commander. Commander Smith' s background includes command of the Oceangoing Minesweeper, USS AFFRAY, and service in the Destroyers HUNTINGTON and DAMATO. At the Pentagon, he was on the Chief of Naval Operations' staff in the Strategic Plans Division. Commander Smith graduated from the Naval War College in 1966 and from the Naval Academy in 1954. In his private moments, the Commander reads copiously. He keeps a master list of literature he has read.
