OUTTEN, CHIEF ENGINEER' ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT The Engineering Department is com- prised of five divisions: A Division, Division, E Division, M Division and R Division. . Maintaining the ship's auxiliary equipment, such as the gas and turbine engines and the cooling systems, is the job of A Division's Machinist Mates and Enginemen. The Boiler Techni- cians of B Division operate BIDDLE's four powerful boilers and their auxilia- ries, generating enough steam for ev- erything from the ship's propulsion to the cook's kettles. ' . E y E Keeping the lights on and the com- munications systems open are the Inte- rior Communications Electricians and Electricians Mates of E Division. The Machinist Mates of M Division chan- nel the steam produced by B Division into turbine nozzles, which in turn pro- pel the ship. Welding, pipe fitting and sheet metal work are just a few of the tasks per- formed by the Machinery Repairmen and Hull Technicians of R Division, who also train all ship personnel in ba- sic damage control techniquesg
