Following his acceptance as a Reserve Officer Candidate, he graduated from St. John's University and was commissioned an Ensign in June 1959. Captain Hock's first duty assignment was to USS STEINAKER QDDR-863J, where, prior to reassignment in 1962, he was fleeted up to head the Weapons Department. His next tour of duty was as Weapons Instructor at the University of Rochester NROTC Unit, where he augmented into the regular Navy and received an-M.A. in history. He then' joined the precommissioning fall of 1970 he reported as Prospective Executive Officer of USS MANLEY KDD-9401, which was receiving its ASW modernization, and re- mained in the .billet through commissioning and the ship's first operational deployment. After a tour on Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet's Staff, Captain Hock assumed commander of USS TRUETT QPF-10951 Upon relief, he joined the staff of Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic. LCDR JAMES P. PCE CHAPLAIN Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 26 October 1944, Chaplain QLCDRJ James F. Poe enlisted in the 'Navy in 1962, serving a four-year tour inthe enlisted ranks. After earning a B.A. in 1973 and an M.A. at Bob jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, he attended Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1979. In 1980 LCDR Poe received his commission in the Navy Chaplains Corps and served as Battalion Chaplain, First Battalion, Sec- ond Marines Division at Camp Le- leune, North Carolina from 1980-82.
