'Q E it ,. . . f if , ' - . if A lg Q, i CAPT JOSEPH T. HOCK A COMMANDING OFFICER Captain Joseph T. Hock was born in New York City 01 December 1936. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve in August 1954. Following his acceptance as a Reserve Officer Candidate, he graduated from St. John's University and was commissioned an Ensign in June 1959. Captain Hock's first duty assignment was to USS STEINAKER QDDR-863J, where, prior to reassignment in 1962, he was fleeted up to head the Weapons Department. His next tour of duty was as Weapons Instructor at the University of Rochester NROTC Unit, where he augmented into the regular Navy and received an-M.A. in history. He then' joined the precommissioning fall of 1970 he reported as Prospective Executive Officer of USS MANLEY KDD-9401, which was receiving its ASW modernization, and re- mained in the .billet through commissioning and the ship's first operational deployment. After a tour on Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet's Staff, Captain Hock assumed commander of USS TRUETT QPF-10951 Upon relief, he joined the staff of Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic. The last year of that tour was spent on temporary duty as part of the initial st ' V ' ' ' affing of the Tactical Training Group, He was-' ord' ed to V next t er OPNAV as Head crew of the Pacific Fleet escort USS .BRADLEY . AMIRAULT EXECUTIVE OFFICER Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, O2 July 1949, LCDR Richard B. Amirault began his Na- val career in the enlisted ranks as a yeoman aboard USS California QCGN-362 after graduat- ing from Boston College with a B.S. in Opera- tional Management in 1971. Following his com- missioning 29 I une 1973, LCDR Amirault was ordered to the U.S. Naval Facility Argentia, Newfoundland, as Oceanographic Systems Watch Officer. His' next tour was as Navigator aboard USS Ainsworth CFP-10901, followed by assignments to USS Rathburne IFF-10571 as Chief Engineer and USS Worden QCG-18D as Combat Systems Officer. p After earning an M.S. in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, LCDR Amirault assumed duties as Executive Officer aboard USS Biddle KCC-341 O7 January 1986. . Stroop was born 21 Decmeber 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He en- tered the United States Naval Academy at An- napolis in 1965 and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelors of Science degree. He was commis- sioned an Ensign 01 August 1969. Commander Stroop's first tour of duty was aboard USS FRANK KNOX IDD-7421 as the ASW Officer! First Lieutenant. His next tour of duty was aboard USS PARSONS IDDG-331 as CIC Officer, after which he attended the De- partment Head Course at Naval Destroyer School in Newport, Rhode Island. In June 1973 Commander Stroop reported aboard USS NEW IDD-818j as Operations Officer. He ,then re- ported aboard USS CORONADO ILPDf11j, serving as Chief Engineer from August 1974 to August 1976. ' g if A In 'September 1976 Commander Stroop re- ported to Commander Mine Warfare Command Staff in Charleston, South Carolina, where he served as Aide' and Flag Lieutenant. He then served a third department head tour as Weap- ons Officer aboard USS HARRY E. YARNELL ICG-17j, after which he attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, in August 1981. i After a tour with Commander Carrier Group FOUR Staff, Commander Stroop reported aboard USS BIDDLE ICG-341 as Executive Offi- cer in May 1984. HODKS I COMMAND MASTER CHIEF A Born O2 October 1947 in Brunswick, Georgia, FCCM KSWQ Walton A. Hooks enlisted in the Navy in July 1965. Since graduating from Firecontrol Techni- cian 'A school in Great Lakes, Illinois, after finishing boot camp, Master Chief Hooks has attended numerous Navy technical schools, including ANXSPG SSB Missile Radar C School in Dam Neck, Virginia, ANXSPS-48 Radar C School in Vallejo, California, MK 152 Computer C School in Norfolk, Vir- ginia. In 1980 he earned a B.A. from Thomas A. Edison College, currently he isa Masters Candidate in Interna- tional Studies at Old Dominion University. A Master Training Specialist, Master Chief Hooks served two tours as an instructor at the Guided Missile School in Dam Neck. Before receiving orders to USS BIDDLE CCG-349 in August 1983, he also served aboard the follow- ing ships: USS WILLIAM V. PRATT CDDG-44l, USS WAINWRIGHT QCG- 28j, USS DALE ICG-195 and USS DAHLGREN IDDG-435. L ' Master Chief Hooks resides with his wife of over 19 years, the former Vickie Fulford of jacksonville, Florida, and their two children, Stephanie and Ste- ven, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. LCDR JAMES P. PCE CHAPLAIN Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 26 October 1944, Chaplain QLCDRJ James F. Poe enlisted in the 'Navy in 1962, serving a four-year tour inthe enlisted ranks. After earning a B.A. in 1973 and an M.A. at Bob jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, he attended Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1979. In 1980 LCDR Poe received his commission in the Navy Chaplains Corps and served as Battalion Chaplain, First Battalion, Sec- ond Marines Division at Camp Le- leune, North Carolina from 1980-82. He was next ordered to Naval Air Sta- tion, Memphis, Tennessee, serving as Staff Chaplain. Chaplain Poe arrived aboard USS BIDDLE QCG-34, in 1984. LCDR Poe and his wife of over 18 years, the former Jane Lipford of Paris, Tennessee, reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with their five children, Ste- phen, Amy, Timothy, Jonathan and Nathan. Maintaining the ship's auxiliary equipment, such as the gas and turbine engines and the cooling systems, is the job of A Division's Machinist Mates and Enginemen. The Boiler Techni- cians of B Division operate BIDDLE's four powerful boilers and their auxilia- ries, generating enough steam for ev- erything from the ship's propulsion to the cook's kettles. ' . E y E Keeping the lights on and the com- munications systems open are the Inte- rior Communications Electricians and Electricians Mates of E Division. The Machinist Mates of M Division chan- nel the steam produced by B Division into turbine nozzles, which in turn pro- pel the ship. Welding, pipe fitting and sheet metal work are just a few of the tasks per- formed by the Machinery Repairmen and Hull Technicians of R Division, who also train all ship personnel in ba- sic damage control techniquesg AF?
