The Team To which we reTer is The Lion Team oT I935, and The enemy we recall is NorTh High School. AlThough our Team did noT win The CenTral Buckeye champion- ship, iTs record is beTTer Than iT appears. To open Their season, The Lions knocked OTT ST. Marys OT Columbus, 7 To O. While This is noT an impressive score, iT was againsT a Team which greaTly ouTdid iTselT. ln The nexT game The Lions baTTled Through mud To a O-O Tie wiTh WilmingTon. One week laTer occurred The greaT vicTory To which we reTerred. Bexley rapidly reached iTs peak and deTeaTed NorTh, I2 To 6. EnTering Their league season undeTeaTed, They kepr up Their record in The TirsT game againsT Marysville b winning, 6 To O. AgainsT Grandview, however, They suTTered Their TirsT deTeaT, aTlTer baTTling even unTil The Tinal Two minuTes. They ToughT To a 6-6 Tie wiTh Delaware and ran rough-shod over Circleville, 40 To O. ln The league Tinal Bexley Trailed WesTerville 7 To O unTil The lasT minuTe when They Tied up The score. Then a Tie was snaTched away by a WesTerville Touchdown, and The Lions losT, I4-7. ln The lasT game OT The season, Bexley losT To ArlingTon, 25 To O. So, wiTh a schedule oT nine games, The Lions won Tour, Tied Two, and losT Three, Two oT The losses coming by one Touchdown, each in The lasT Tew minuTes OT play. CapTain BurgeTT oT Bexley was placed on The myThical All-6reaTer Columbus and on The All-CenTral Buckeye Teams. AT Times The infield would blow up in errors or The hiTTing would prove poor, buT all of This was evened up by The Times when The players showed big league Torm in boTh fielding and hiTTing. T STanley Miller did a very crediTable- iob of caTching for The Lions. AT piTch, Gene BurgeTT and Ray Gornall showed all kinds of speed and conTrol. Dick Hogan performed admirably aT firsT base, while Cahill and Myers or Borchers formed a good keysTone combinaTion. Bill Emig played aT Third. ln The ouTfield The regular players were: Magee, leTT field: Teegardin, cenTer field: and l-laTch, righT field. As This was wriTTen, The Lions had won Three games and losT Two. They had de- feaTed Mifflin 9 To 2, Gahanna Lincoln 4 To 3, and GroveporT 9 To 7. They losT To NorTh 9 To 6: and in The disTricT TournamenT were eliminaTed in The firsT round by Aquinas, who defeaTed Them 5 To l. In This game The Lions allowed Their opponenfs five runs in The firsT inning and Then held Them scoreless for The remainder of The game.
