Mr. Thomas Tanous, Mr. John Lapsley, Mr. Edward Mul- lin. of the Louisiana Purchase to Joan Blank SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT The aim of the Social Studies Depart- ment, under the direction of Mr. John Page. was to give each student an appreciation of the world around him. This was accom- plished through such courses as American history, problems of democracy and Mod- ern History. Students were taught to under- stand other peoples and other forms of governmentg in psychology courses pupils probed the workings of men's minds. This combination of knowledge made each stu- dent a better citizen with a deeper under- standing of mankind.
