Putting the knowledge to use. l LANGUAGES Uniting efforts with the Social Studies Department, the Language Department, too, helped our world grow smaller. By learn- ing a foreign language, the students better understood how a person in that country thinks. The knowledge of a foreign lan: guage encouraged students to travel to the country in which the language is spoken, Thus, the Language Department provided a stepping stone to seeing a country first hand.

The Social Studies Department, under the direction of Mr. John Page, strove for the students to become acquainted with oth- er lands, so that they could better under- stand the problems of these countries and their people. It was the job of the history teachers to acquaint the students with the countries, and the psychology teachers fol- lowed by helping the students understand the why of what they learned. I6
