il MR. WILLIAM J. FOLEY, Principal ADMINISTRATION At Beverly High School, the administration department is headed by Mr. William J. Foley, our principal. Indispensable aid was provided by Mr. Harland Carter, disciplinary officer, Miss Susan Allison, Miss Nancy Cyr, and Mrs. Louise Dube, office workers, Mrs. Edith Carr, school nurse, and Miss Dorothy McClure, cafeteria manager. Office aides, who collected attendance slips at the beginning of each class period, also provided valuable assistance. During the past year, addi- tions to the administration department included three housemasters, who prepared for moving to the new high school building. FONTAINE I. HARRIMAN S. JOHNSON James Densmore interviews Elizabeth Peterson during an early autumn English demonstration in preparation for college admission procedures. ENGLISH English is the study of communications, written and oral, and an introduction to the humanities. The Eng- lish Department of Beverly High School, directed by Mr. Edward Watts, offered speech, grammar, litera- ture, and composition to students in college prepara- tory, general, or business courses. The obiectives of the English Department were to provide an intro- duction to good literature and to develop an ability for oral and written communication in students. Mem- bers of the department also supervised the schooI's three publications. The literary magazine, Aegis, was directed by Mr. Edward Watts and Mrs. Helena Cor- bett for the first half of the year and for the second half year by Frances Trowt. The yearbook, Beverlega, was supervised by Miss Isabel Harriman, and the B.H.S. News was edited by Mr. Emery Hollerer. The Dramatic Club was supervised by Miss Catherine Hanf. 1 t,:.'JQ G. KINNALY J.
