SMITH Principal 270 the Members of I 6 611155 of 7950: Whatever your present thoughts and emotions may be on the eve of your high school graduation, I would urge you throughout life to keep in mind and strive to meet great challenges which can help you make the most of your lives. What are some of these great challenges? I am thinking especially of the following: 1. The challenge of character. Beverly and every other community need men and women of great integrity and of high moral and ethical character, men and women who are honest with themselves and others and who are clean in thought, word, and deed. Working together actively with other like-minded men and women in the church or synagogue of one's choice can be an effective way of meeting this challenge. 2. The challenge of citizenship. The good citizen is the man who has a useful job best suited to his own abilities and interests and who uses his income wisely for himself and his family. The good citizen takes as active a part as possible in promoting good government on the local, state, national and, international levels. 3. The challenge of service. Loved and respected is the man or woman who with no thought of financial gain says the kind word or does the good deed to help relative, friend, or neighbor or to advance the good work being done by the church, civic, or fraternal organization ofwhich he is a member. Giving of oneself in service to others is one of the noblest activities a man may pursue in life. 4. The challenge of tolerance. The tolerant man is one who respects his fellow man notwith- standing his class, color, or creed and who has as his great ideal the brotherhood ofall men.
