Dwight Burrell Rusty Adams, Kelly Woodward Original B.A. Students Tracy Yancey, Mark Garmon Tim Ward. Connie Mahan Class Poem The years have passed so quickly now. Our time together is almost gone. For as long as we keep our memories We need not ever be alone. We've been together for a couple of years. Some, even longer. But through the years all our friendships here. Have grown even stronger. As we prepare to leave B.A. with Sadness at leaving the past. We will always remember that our Friendships here were made to last. Time will go on, each person will change. For things will never stay the same. But we will always remember a special Person, event, or game. Though soon we will be separated-Each going his own way-We will never forget Bessemer Academy Or our graduation day. Poet Jerri Burnett Class History The history of the Class of '81 has been interesting. It has been one of great contrast, from Mrs. Lasseter and Marv to Mrs. Buck and Miss Whittington; from being intimidated to being in charge Our story begins in the third grade at the old school. They stuck us in the back, but we did not mind because we had our own bathroom and no one else did. We had some great times at the school playing house in the back yard and bathing with poison oak But it was not all bad The fourth grade was the beginning of a new part of our life, with the anticipation of a new building and the meeting of new friends. During this year some of us received our first demerits, but we made many new friendships that would last all the way through high school. Our fifth grade year reaffirmed our dislike for school as our elementary years continued Things were different, though, because we were the head of the elementary end of the school, to be looked up to and respected As we realized our position, the teachers began to get in our way as we had to sign contracts promising our efforts in science. However, we were abruptly brought back to shocking reality when our English teacher (?) tied us in our chairs. The end of this year had most of the girls going out for cheerleading and the guys for Junior High Football under Coach Amason. In the seventh grade, we began again; we were on the other end of the hall. We had some wild times that year torturing Mr. Remele by lining our shoes up against the wall, throwing our books on the floor and raising our hands all at the same time It is no wonder he left the year after that. In the eighth grade we were finally getting into the hang of the high school life. In the ninth grade, we attempted the task of speaking a foreign language: Spanish or French, as well as that foreign language they spoke in our first Shakespearian play. Romeo and Juliet. When Mrs. Lasseter assigned over 500 questions on it. we thought it was sheer torture! With our sophomore year came a new word, pledge : a word that will stay with us forever. Those who were not pledges will never forget stepping over dead bugs in the hall. Here, we were the youngest of the high school, not the oldest of the junior high anymore. We were very proud of our first Homecoming Court representatives. Homecoming was highlighted as we entered our first float and drew a respectable second place. After Christmas the meaning of “term paper was introduced, but as we worked on our papers, we realized we were no longer the little kids we pretended to be The eleventh grade was when we finally realized our time at Bessemer Academy was drawing to an end. When Class Day of '80 was over and we had ordered our class rings, we felt we were finally seniors. It was then that teachers like Mr Rogers started feeling they should better prepare us for college, with advanced chemistry. Also that year we won the Homecoming float and door decoration. We worked hard planning and decorating for the prom with the theme The Wizard of Oz. We entered this, our senior year, full of anxious pride, determined to make this year the best. After winning the spirit stick numerous times and attending the Homecoming dance, we knew the end was near, but we refused to believe it. We were finally awakened to the realistic world of graduation, with the ordering of caps and gowns. Even though we are leaving to begin a new life, we can assure you that the memories of Bessemer Academy will never leave us. Last Will And Testament To: Mr. Rogers. Janet Fancher Eric Kidd Class Lawyers 37 Class Prophecy As we the Class of '81 assemble for our ten year reunion, we are amazed at what some of our former classmates have achieved or failed to achieve. Greeting us at the door with open arms is Lila Robinson, now the manager of Hury Auto Parts. As the crowd gathers. Jimbo Roe DMD. who is now in the midst of a dental malpractice suit, calls the gathering to order. Standing beside him is his wife, the former Lisa McEniry, who is now the model in the T.V. commercial for Jimbo's new toothpaste, Rebeldent. Cindy Spell has stopped in from her latest evangelical tour long enough to read the invocation. Entertaining us tonight is Miss Dana Swindal who has just recently gained popular acclaim with her rendition of M Go to My Grave Loving You.” Also singing for us tonight will be the popular duet Double Trouble,'' our own Karen Callahan and Vicki Brown. Karen is just in from the ski slopes of Vail, and Vicki is now president of the Avon Corporation. As we look around, we see many people who have gone into the sports world. There is Suzanne Shaw who has just beaten out Randall Guyton for a starting position on the Atlanta Hawks. Chatting with Randall is Tim Ward, who is able to be here tonight because his professional football season was cut short with yet another knee injury. Shuffling into the room now is Greg Reaves, who is president and chief instructor for the Olympic Weight Club. As we glance around the room once again we see Rusty Adams and Dwight Burrell, who have taken a rest from their cross country vaudeville tour to form a lonely hearts club. Standing near the door we see James Howell, Chris Downs, Mike DeRoncey, and Randy Allen just in from a night's mushroom hunt. Also Missy Childers who has opened a chain of truck stops known as Missy's 6th Wheel.' Coming toward us now are Doctors Jan Casey and Vicky Arnett who have taken time off from their research for a cure of the disease Mentalitosis. more commonly known as the abnormal desire to study. Brian Bell has just completed his book entitled How to Avoid Unnecessary Comments in Class. We overheard Pam Griffin and Phyllis Breland discussing plans for the enlargement of their shop, which caters to the steady dating couple. Mark Garmon has just returned from an African Safari. He is discussing the details with Jerry Long who has been lumbering the forests of the North West. In the corner we see Janet Fancher, the editor of the magazine Men Watching. Just in from a jump with the 82nd Airborne is Capt Mark Ray arguing the point of a foreign affair with Prof of History Eric Kidd. Jonathan Foster is discussing what he saw on T.V. last night with Neale Rhea, who is now a designer of clothes for the muscle-bound man. Co-owners of the Bessemer Twin Theatre. Valerie Baumann, Kelley Dunn, and Beth Peterson, are talking with Georgie Watts who owns a charm school, and on the side doubles for Lisa Lubner in her new film.
