She’s been a great inspiration to us all here at Bessemer Academy. To the students she has been many things, a teacher ... a counselor ... a friend. She has greeted the problems handed her with determination and an “ear to ear” smile. She has taught us that you can take what little is put before you and make it something great! This annual is a beautiful example of just that. Therefore, she caused us to admire her greatly, for her talents, drive, warm personality, and her ability to kindle a fire of determination in all of her students; we, the annual staff of the 1972-73 REFLECTIONS dedicate this yearbook, with appreciation and respect and sincere love to Helen Peoples. 4 5 Con ten ts Faculty Classes Favorites Athletics Organizations Activities Advertisements 7 r‘One of the best ways to persuade others is with your ears — by listening to them. It takes a lot of hard work to prepare for the tryouts each spring. But, the work does not stop here. Once elected, a girl must practice daily during much of the summer. Last year, our cheerleaders attended the Cheerleading Clinic at Judson College. Here they learned new cheers, pom pom routines, stunts, and new ways to create good school spirit. We saw the results of this at our pep rallies and games. 59 Pom pom routines are an important part of each pep rally. Cheers create spirit. Cheerleaders direct crowd enthusiasm. Hard practice pays off in perfect cheering routines. It was an evening enjoyed by all who attended. These pictures show the winning skit presented by the Sophomore Class. It was a nostalgic look at teenagers of the 50’s. It was written by Joellyn Beckham and Johnny Howton and well acted by all. Ann Harrison, 10-B homeroom, was the sponsor. Due to camera failure, we regret that we have no pictures of the Freshmen Class stunt. It was a humorous skit entitled Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions. Sharon Woodward of 7-C was the sponsor. 77 The Junior Class gave us an interesting and unique look at a true physical phenomenon with their skit, MThe Eclipse. Their sponsor was our favorite substitute teacher, Jean Smith. 78 Homecoming Escorts 79 A spirited pep rally! Joy after a great victory!
