Berwick's football program was very strong in the 60's and 7O's, but the phase- out of post-graduate and boarding students led to a sharp decline in the number of available players. Coach Staples decided to import the six-man concept from Texas and the experiment proved to be a big success. Four other schools fielded similar clubs and several others are interested in meeting the Bulldogs in future years. The '79 record: B.A. 29 New Hampton O B.A. 21 Holderness 6 Proctor 18 B.A.l2 Phillips Exeter 33 B.A. 42 Team Captain Ed Manzi, a senior from Acton. was voted Most Valuable Player, and Chris Stone, a junior from Ogunquit, received the Most Improved Player award. Mr. Doggett served as Asst. Coach. l 'K
