The year l954 presents the largest class that has ever graduated from Berthoud Hugh School We are proud to graduate twenty seven students nlne gurls and eughteen boys Jum Reusbeck Norlen Sandy and Junuor Ramos have completed all twelve years un the Berthoud schools whule the rest have uouned these three along the way We reached hugh school as green freshmen un the year l95O We found out what ut meant to be under classmen when we were unutuated by the mughty Senuors un September We had twenty eught members un our class We added Robert Orback Esta Ault LaVonne Bassett Gerald Spencer Joe Lunch Donald Johnson Donna Martundale Doyle Swafford Ruchard Schleuger Gene Ostermuller Sandra Thornton Kenneth Gentz Darlene Glasgow and Roy Burch That year we lost Robert Orback Esta Ault LaVonne Bassett Gerald Spencer and Joe Lunch On February l3 the class had a roller skatung party In November we had a theater party The class won the Band Queen contest wuth Vuola Ornalas as Queen Sweetheart candndate was Vurgunua Starck Class offucers were Presudent Dorus Ferguson Vuce Presudent Ruchard Schleuger Secretary John Hahn Treasurer Alan Buehler Student Councul members Robert Starck and Joann Adler Sponsors were Mrs Schnurr and Mr Matsomoto We started the year l95l with thurty four mem bers un the Sophomore class We lost Ruth Velasquez Vuola Ornalas and Leroy Long We gauned Arlus Falls and Ruta Nadeau We had a theater party un November Vuola Ornalas was our attendant to the Homecomung queen Offucers for the year were Presudent Vuola Ornalas Vuce Presudent Robert Starck Secretary Ruchard Schleuger Treasurer Vur gunua Starck Reporter Donna Martundale Student Councul Charlene Johnson and Howard Buehler Sponsor was Mr McKunnon The Junuor Class entered Berthoud Hugh School un the fall of l952 wuth twenty seven members Durung the year we lost Mollue Lopez and gauned Donna Mar tundale On the nught of December 20 the class pre l declare' as the day drew nearer when l was to take that Aurways plane which was to transport me back to the old schoolhouse and the old school fruends of Berthoud the Garden Spot of Colorado I became more and more excuted The last few days each seemed a week Whom would l fund? Would I know them? Would they know me? How would each one look? What would they thunk of me? These and a hundred more querues puled themselves up un my braun Well' the day arruved Wuth heart beatung fast and sented a three act comedy entutled Funders Creepers A float was entered un the Homecomung parade and won furst pruze Sandra Thornton was Homecomung queen attendant On May 2 the class put on the Junuor Senuor Banquet and Prom honorung the Senuor class The theme for both banquet and prom was The Enchanted lsland The tables were decorated wuth palm trees along the muddle wuth graduatuon caps as nut cups The welcome was guven by the Junuor Presu dent Kenneth Gentz and the response by the Senuor Presudent Shurley Schleuger The wauters and waut resses were chosen from the Sophomore class The wauters wore dark slacks and whute shurts and leus the wautresses wore peasant blouses and grass skurts and leus After the banquet we went to the gym for the Prom The gym was decorated wuth palm trees and hula gurls fastened to the walls Blue paper strung along the ceulung guve the effect of the sky wuth the moon promunently glowung above the band Punch was served at untermussuon The musuc was furnushed by an orchestra from Greeley Junuor offucers were Presudent Kenneth Gentz Vuce Presudent John Hahn Secretary Joann Adler Treasurer Clarence Hart Student Councul Ruchard Schleuger Robert Starck Howard Buehler and John Hahn Sponsor was Muss Dorothy Whutney ln the fall of l953 we reached the top We were now the mughty Senuors We gauned two new members Mary Louuse Ferguson and James Musser We lost Joann Adler and Johnnue Nolde In October we unu tuated the green freshmen The freshman Receptuon and the Homecomung Dance were combuned Home comung was October I6 We had a parade and pruzes were guven for the best floats Charlene Johnson and Alan Buehler were the Homecomung Queen and Kung Theur attendants were Beth Grauberger Mary Lou Velasquez and Kay Munter Senuor offucers were Presudent Duck Hummel Vuce Presudent Howard Buehler Secretary Vurgunua Starck Treasurer Alan Buehler Student Councul Charlene Johnson Ruchard Schleuger John Hahn Robert Starck and Howard Buehler Sponsors were Muss Pearl Wrught and Mr V A Cunea my luggage tuggung at my strength l boarded the plane Two hundred and fufty mules an hours Fuve hundred mules to go Do you mean that l am only two hours away from the scenes of 20 years ago? And yet I have not been back un all these 20 years Where have I been? What have I done that now seems half as um portant as seeung John and Robert and Sally agaun? Ah here she us And here us Donna Martundale They must have taken back theur unseparableness from Buelah and Bertha for here they are gossupung over the back fence marrued of course to a paur of the ruchest men un the world By the way they made theur furst mulluon un farmung Sure enough Harold Wulluams landed un a bank but so furmly had hus barutone habut grown upon hum un school he soon commenced a croonung hour over WSYR Mondays Wednesdays and Frudays and then well he had to drop the bank because broadcastung took all hus tume and was a hundred per cent more profutable anyway than cashung checks We see here that Sally Wulson Duck Hummel Vur gunua Starck and Howard Buehler are all happuly mar rued Sally us the busy wufe of Duck who us now an ar chutect for a bug furm un Denver and Howard and Vur gunua are now the owners of a IOOO acre ranch un northeastern Colorado Where us Eldon Myers?
