Mr. Fred H. Loveday PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE The present is but the meeting point of the past and the future. As we travel through time, the things which we honor and respect and the things for which we are honored and respected determine the direc- tion of our travel. It has been the constant effort of your school to help you to build strongly. in character, in mind, and in the spirit. Herein can a healthy young man who has a genuine concern for humanity attain his best. The world is in great need of men who will dare to do their best; it needs men who have the wisdom and the vision to choose things of lasting value rather than fleeting amusements, dedicated service rather than selfish gain, tolerance and understanding rather than prejudice, knowledge rather than ignorance, and sincere goodness rather than a mere veneer of respectability. Humanity needs good leaders; our na- tion needs strong and alert citizens; and the kingdom of God needs sincere Christians. Young men, you can meet these needs and demands! Face the future with a great courage, with an undaunted spirit, and with an undying faith. If you should achieve great success, Berry will be proud of you. If you do not, Berry will still claim you as her own. Remember, the present is virtually non-existent and your future is rapidly becoming your past. This never-ending process of life attains its fullest meaning whenever we can say with the Apostle Paul, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the Faith.” FRED H. LOVEDAY Principal

Dr. John R. Bertrand PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The 1960 TORCH records for each of us many events meaningful in our lives to- gether this year at Berry. I am sure that we will have many opportunities throughout the yeats ahead to refer to the pictures and events herein recorded. I am equally sure that most of the moments about which we will be reminded are bright ones. We hold as important several elements which give Berry its distinctive- ness. @ Emphasis on the development of Christian character. @ Effort toward an academic program of superior quality. @ Emphasis upon the importance of work well done. @ Stress on simplicity of living and beauty in everyday life. @ Dedication to an ideal of service symbolized in our motto, “Not to be ministered unto, but to minister.” It has been for me a great experience to be associated with you young men of the Mount Berry School for Boys. My thoughts and prayers will be with you as you leave Berry better prepared for lives of service. JOHN R. BERTRAND President
