Prophecy One day while I was carefully preparing for an experi- ment in the lab, Mr. Brock asked me to take a whiff of a liquid that he had in a five-gallon jug. I stuck my nose down into the mouth of the jug and inhaled an excessive amount of the liquid which turned out to be ammonium hydroxide and it put me in a dreamy mood. While I was in this so-called dreamy mood I could see all of my classmates and what they would be doing in 1969. I could see Miss America who, by the way, is our own Betty Sue Cunningham, awarding to Kenneth Godsey the Nationfs Football Coach of the Year Plaque. He was head coach at LSU last year. Johnny Barrentine has just telephoned back to Earth from the moon that he has made a home out of his mis- guided missile. He also had time to say that he missed all of his friends in Flatwoods. Alabama is very proud of Rosemary Kimbrell. She is now the Worldis most famous pianist. I could see Maurice Bonner's picture on every poster with his big cheery smile advertising his own world leading toothpaste, Smil-O. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Pendley fnee Shirley Watkinsl were sitting in the living room of their new fifteen-room manor just outside of Berry. They wanted a home near Berry High School so they could send their children to play football and to cheerlead for the Wildcats. Mavis Barrentine and Billie June Simpson now travel around the world giving lectures to older women on how to get a man. They are still young yet, but time flies and if they don't find a man soon theyill be old maids. I could see some of the prominent citizens of Berry, Elvis Presley, Jayne Mansfield, and Pat Boone, praising Alabama's new governor, Frances Rosser, for getting the name of the county changed to Berry. We have always dreamed of this. I knew that Lehman Pendley was fascinated with his role as an electrician in our Senior Play but I didnit think that he would make it a profession. He is now the electrician for Berry High School, one of Alabama's largest high schools. It seems that Coach Bobby Pendley has led his Wildcats through the past six years undefeated and all the teen-age boys Want to come to play football for the Wildcats. They had to enlarge the school for this reason. Linda Webster was busy writing speeches and planning an FHA Convention at Montevallo because she is now the state FHA advisor. John Curtis Espey has a new speed shop in Berry. It seems that his most steady customer is Joy Ann Woods. She has a souped-up car that will outrun anything in the state. Kenneth Johnston is now head of the school bus depart- ment in Berry County. They all have an air-conditioner, heater, radio, snack-bar, and television set. I could see Frances Knight as a beauty operator. She was cutting Vera Nell F eltman's hair. It was still as pretty as it was in high school. My dream wasn't very plain at this point because at first all I could see was a cloud of dust. Then the dust cleared and I could see a beautiful black stallion, but the stallion was dragging something! No, I was mistaken, it was dragging somebody! Why, it was Hoyt Stough in Arizona. He was laughing and singing verses as usual. He hadn't changed any since 1959. He told me that Earl Pendley was foreman of his ranch here in Arizona. I didnlt think about Earl leaving Berry. Ray Clark was sitting at his desk in the office of the Logger's Association Hall. He is a very rich man now even though he is not quite thirty years old. Clark must have used part of his many smart ideas. I saw Sherry Poe as a Lady-First Lady of Marion Institute, that is. She married a Cadet that she met while at Judson College. Rolph Feltman has just been elected Sheriff of Berry County. He really believes in enforcing the law. He sen- tenced Shirley Seaborn to two hours of baking because she tried to break the law of gravitation. I could see Linda Pearson as a comptometer operator for Alabama Power Company. Annie Sue Pinion is president of the company. She certainly handles her power well. I saw Ronnie Crownover trying to get into his new foreign car that is an original from Mars. The cars are smaller now than they were in 1959 and he is determined to drive it even if he has to have his legs shortened. I could see Macon Shepherd resting down at Yellow Creek running Alabamals Most Restful Fishing Center. He also teaches restful dancing. It was June, the month for brides. I could see Ted Harbin in the beautiful city of Honolulu, Hawaii, looking for a bride. The American Women all Went wild about Ted, but they all said that he was too flirty to marry. I could see Joan Watkins flying high above the clouds.
