At the end of our first game, we bid farewell to our big brothers and sisters, the Seniors. STRIKE TWO We enter our second game with high hopes. Can he do it? Well, let’s see. The en- tire class of ' 61” has gone all out to help one of its alumni rise to fame. PETER LEWIS and SALLY V AN DORN are grand designers of the project. . For their outstanding suggestions, the following have received power- driven chariots instead of Lincoln cars: JAN KLIMUSZKO, PENNY HYDE, ED GIANA, ELEANOR LABIENIEC, ARNOLD DeCHESSER and SANDY DEMERS. Many are deeply disappointed, especially MARGIE STURM, but as the saying goes, When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. (GARY GURSKE is one of those who would prefer the Lincoln. ) While observing the ancient city, we see Officers BILL LENNEHAN and BILL BENTLEY trying laboriously to stop MR. SWANSON, MR. PERKINS, and MISS MAGUDER, who are speeding in their power-driven chariots. Naturally, the chariots were painted red and blue by BOB BROMAGE and BOB JOHNSON. The two officers have not seen such swift driving since their high school days when such racers as MASSIRIO, BRYANT, and BEL- LOTTI appeared on the freeways. However, we must continue with the reconstruction project assigned to the class of 61”. At the center of Rome, we see BILL SZETELA trying to install Turkish baths instead of Roman ones. (DAVE MISTERI always did say he was a non-conformist. ) AUGUST RONCAIOLI, who has a love for the entire country of Italy, decides to bring better relations between America and Italy by promising to straighten the Leaning Tower of Pisa. He has chosen a committee consisting of JUNE PEPIN, JIM FOURNIER, ROSS RANDOLPH, KARIN JOHNSON, and RUSS JORDAN, with DENNIS PHANEUF as chairman. Even though the chairman says it can’t be done, how can the committe fail with such mathematical engineers as JOE ANNUN- ZIATA, SAM GRAHAM, JOYCE MATTSON, and DONA STRAND? BLAIR ALEXANDER and GARY THURESON are working on the same project, using only the basic concepts of mathematics. Focusing the spotlight on more feminine topics, we find DAWN DOYLE, JOANNE DE ANGELIS, and MARIE DIMEO designing new styles of gar- ments which will be used to drape the statues on the Pantheon. Standing be- fore the Pantheon, we see JON STANSFIELD arguing the fact with HINDA ROSE and KAREN LUNDELL that they need to polish the marble before it is used. Besides, MIKE CUMMINGS is tired enough without doing all that buffing. 34 FLOYD DUNAWAY is trying to rebuild the stadium first. JOHN STURM and PHIL TODARO think he has intentions of collecting bets on the horses used in the chariot races. We see BARB LABBE and CAROL TYBUR- SKI doing their share by patching cracks in the roof of the Pantheon. Many have been doing tiring and strenuous jobs. ROBERT NILES, LEST- ER KURPIEWSKI, ROGER OUELLETTE, and ED KUNDE are holding up the pillars of ancient buildings while COOKIE BARONE, COOKIE WILK and CAROL BYRNE cement the pillars to the platform. JUDY and JANET SPENCE, JANET GENEST, JOAN BENNER, AGNES CALICCHIO and JOANNE DE LORENZE are complaining of backaches after bending down all day picking flowers in the meadows. ELOISE FOURNIER, JEAN CROOKS and KITTY GOLA will use these flowers to decorate the tables at the future banquet. Meanwhile, ELISA CAMMAROTA, JOAN BITTNER, MARY JANE SURKO, MARY ANN BOSSO, MELANIE BENOIT and JANICE MEEHAN are getting passports ready for a safe and speedy voyage back to America after the project is completed. The class will travel aboard the DUDZINSKI- STUDZINSKI Inc. Ocean Liner. Seven days have passed since the reconstruction project began, and we find the entire class of ”61” exhausted. But leave it to BARB LEWANDOSKI and JOAN PERNAL to be friends in need. Both are selling the American product Geritol” to those lacking energy. JOHN WALES and STEVE TELKE have found the Italian wine more to their liking. We must give credit to MARIE ROMEGIALLI, PAT COLE, PHIL FORAUER, LINDA KRESGE and PHIL WOODRUFF for the fine job they have done building the dam on the Tiber River, which runs near the ancient city. STEVE CRAIG can be seen rushing to the strategic area wirh a bag of cement. Everything seems to be under control. (You must realize that Rome was built on seven hills.) TALI VAR- RICCHIONE, CHARLES MARSHALL, PHYLLIS CLARK and PETE GAR- RISON have been assigned the job of gardeners, but first they must plant grass. Pete is the only one who has taken the matter too seriously. He has been seen at all hours of the morning and night watering the dry ground. PAULA CIAN- CI is looking at the beautiful and colossal Colosseum. Having been told by BOB DRUMMOND that the walls of the Colosseum themselves cost more than fifty million dollars, Paula decides it will be a feather in her cap if she can restore the building. Once the Colosseum is restored, a schedule of activities for entertainment will be published by CAROL ORECCHIO, GEORGEANE FUSARO, CAR- OL CONTINO and KATHY KANE. Meanwhile, RICH LOMBARDI is try- ing to fatten his pet lion, hoping it will win a blue or red ribbon when the stadium opens. While he is working, he has asked his loyal friend, KATHY WALSH, if she will mind feeding the lion. Since Kathy fears lions, TOM WASIELAK has agreed to feed it. As the project progresses, chances are greater that JIM CHASE will rise to fame. His chances are so great that his doctors, TONY ZAUTRA and MARK RECOR, have ordered tranquillizers from CAROL HRUBIEC’S pharmacy. BABS DOLECKI, JOAN HOLYST, and RITA BEECHER have not 35 overlooked the legends of t he Christians at the Colosseum. To remind all of the privilege of a free religion, they have asked JOY WALLACE, ANDY BARNIAK, CAROL RIGGOTT and JOYCE MIGLIETTA to print pamphlets to bring back to America. Throughout the entire project LINDA NILES, CHI CHI NADAL and CARA BERGSTROM have taken pictures of Rome before and after the class of ' 61” began its work. While reading the annals of Rome, sympathetic BRUCE TREVETHAN has brought up the question of whether Brutus was guilty, thinking that he could have been acquitted by pleading temporary in- sanity. Meanwhile, BOB PAJOR and DEAN BOISSONEAU have told Bruce to leave well enough alone and to stay away from the fil£s. The rebuilding has been completed, and the class loves the job it has done, even though the Italian Council, consisting of MARIE DE VIVO, RAY DEL MARTINO, RICH NALDI, PHIL PERRETTA and LINDA ARUTE don’t approve. Before a celebration for the opening of the Colosseum can begin, BOB LEWIS, SUE LORD, RON CAMPBELL, JUDY BORKOWSKI and LOREN DICKINSON must change the hard stone seats at the arena to foam rubber cushions supplied by KINCAID’S Ever-Ready Shop. We regret to say that the following have been literally scared to death after seeing LOMBARDI’S hungry lion wandering around the arena: ROY FAVROW, ALLEN SLIMSKI, RICH QUIRY, DAVE and PHIL MAULE, and CAROL and WILMA LOWCHY. Thousands outside the Colosseum wait patiently to catch a glimpse of JIM CHASE. CATHERINE THOMPSON, DAVE ALKAS, CHRIS BRU- SICK, JOANNE KUCHARCZYK, MARIAN YANTZ and BONNIE FREER have been told to hold back the crowd. FRANK DOBECK, HELENE SANEF- SKI GRETCHEN MARLOW and PETER LECH have been asked to guard the celebrity at all times. RICH PASKIEWICZ and LINDA PETRUCELLI are raising the Amer- ican flag on the Arch of Constantine. BERNADETTE BURROUGHS, JUDY GILL, BARBARA LANDRY, PAT POLGROSZEK, CHRIS HART, DEB- BIE BRUCE and ANN DOOLITTLE have been chosen to crush grapes from AVERY’S Orchard for wine at the big celebration. Later in the evening, we will be serenaded by HALEY’S Comets with SIEGFRIED PAUL, RON RO- BALEWSKI, and ED KEATING playing on the tamborines, NORMAN ZIEL on the harp, DICK and BARB PAJOR on the military trumpets, and PAT BOUCHARD, JOAN KLEINSCHMIDT, BETTY BELLINGER and JOAN KAIRIS humming along to the enchanting tunes. JANE HAZLETT, HELEN FARONE, and CLAYTON BEEBE have arranged for former Olym- pic stars to unite in teams and entertain the group. We leave the class of ’61 enjoying all the fun at the celebration.
