This year the first Homecoming Day was held. The queen and her court reigned over both the football game and the dance at night. With experienced salesmen- we won the Magazine Drive for the third time. After great planning and anticipation we gave our first formal, Deep Purple,” a brilliant success. Adding to the excitement of this evening was the presentation of class rings by our ring chairman, Ken Munson. Our last dance of the year The Record Roundup” was also a success, both socially and financially. With the graduation of the seniors, we inherited the long awaited pleasures of the Senior Walk. ACT IV The final curtain found us preparing ourselves for the long road ahead. First on the agenda was the initiation of the Freshman Class. We proudly presented them w'ith our books and stood attentively to hear Our Song.” To welcome them we gave a dance in their honor; surprisingly, we made a profit. Like the rest of the exalted seniors before us, we had a booth at the Berlin Fair at which we sold Christmas novelties. After two weeks of second or third place (mostly third), we shocked the whole school by winning the Magazine Drive — the only class to accomplish this feat four years in succession. Our senior, Nancy Caccavale, reigned as Homecoming Queen in the second annual Homecoming Day events. One by one the days passed as the Senior Ball and Class Night drew near. With much zeal and anticipation we planned both and watched each become part of memory. We finally heard the strains of Pomp and Circumstance” and knew that we would never return, except as alumni. Many memories flood our thoughts, as we take our individual paths. May each of us be blessed with good fortune and happiness. 26

CLASS HISTORY or The Perils of Our High School Years” Cast- Class of I960 Setting - Berlin High School Time-September 1956-June I960 ACT I As the curtain rose in September, 1956, we found ourselves entering Berlin High School with mixed emotions, but looking forward to our freshman year. After becoming accustomed to new classes, rou tines, and teachers, we were welcomed with open arms, our arms, of course, for senior books. After a week of chaos — dolls, songs, and burlap sacks, we were formally accepted by the Class of ’57 at the Freshman Reception. To the embarrassment of the upper classmen, our class placed first in the Magazine Drive and the Cross Country Meet. Even with this winning streak we lost, when Mrs. Schmidt, our class adviser, left us. However, our hopes rose again when Mrs. Chenette took her place. On June 7, 1957 we bade farewell to our big brothers and sisters with a dance in their honor, making the fabulous sum of $7.58. Well, we didn’t lose anything but our seniors. ACT II The following September our class entered its second year at B.H.S. This year we made a fine start with our dance Harvest Moon.” Our treasury grew with leaps and bounds when we won the Magazine Drive for the second time. To our delight we won the Cross Country Meet once more. Our joy was shortlived when we lost our class adviser again. ACT III The third year found us as upperclassmen with our new adviser, Mrs. Johnson. The work for our year book began early. 25
