Its purpose is to represent the student body in items concerning the school, betterment of the school, and to promote an interest in government. Activities that Student Council participated in this year included such events as Homecoming and Senior Night programs, registering seniors to vote, and sponsoring Leadership Day and presenting a number of leadership awards. A program started by Dr. Sheats involving Student Council and the student body is the Student Advisory Council. This council is composed of four seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and one freshman. Five members are permanent and five are appointed on a monthly basis. People serving on the council are selected by the Student Council presi- dent. The council is responsible for keeping the superintendent informed about the views and concerns of the students. This year the staff is under the supervision of a new advisor, Mrs. Rebecca Bower. Each student works hard collecting news information and writing articles of current happenings in order to publish an effec- tive newspaper. The staff published three editions of the Mountaineer this year. They made many changes and improvements on the paper. One major change was that of the publishing company. This change also af- fected the style of paper used. The staff also participated in a program aired over WVSC at Christmas time. They were involved in three different shows. The topic of each show had to deal with Christmas customs and beliefs. 84 ACTIVITIES , 1 K Mrs. Bower-Advisor, jackie Meyers-Editor ' ' ' ' Y' - ' ' , ' ' ' A. .-',.'3Q.f'SW- L iwf, - H , ' , if Q - , v 4 1 , W- .-1 - Ygiiz-.H 1,-ly f- f K , .IP ,K, 2 VV.,- ,M N ' .'?, ,. w ' '.
