From him we have received guid- ance, inspiration, knowledge, and higher ideals. He not only has successfully coached our football team and given its members a thorough knowledge of the game, but more important, he has given them training in sportsmanship and fair play. ln class, he gave us a keen understanding of our country, its history and problems. As guidance coun- selor, Mr. Cugini advised and guided us concerning our future lives. To you, Mr. Cugini, who have given us of your time, talent, and energy, we dedicate the l964 Bervalon. 9 Umfmzfr ADMINISTRATION and FACULTY ... ... Page I2 SENIORS . . ... When we first entered school, the years stretched before us in an infinity of time. But now, looking back, we realize how short was the time we had in which to learn so much. Through our school activities we have grown in knowledge, character, sportsmanship, friendship, and moral strength. ln this book, we have tried to portray the many facets of our school days - perhaps one of the happiest times of our lives. ll -. A TIME FOR MEMORIES wwf up I 27 As we, the Class of l964, watch the hands of time ever moving onward, it is with fond memories that we recall the past four years. Our high school days began with the election of Dan Hepler as our class president, aided by Larry Walker, Janice Bender, and Beverly Brant. Charles McCur- dy was selected class president in our soph- omore year, Janice Bender, vice-president, Beverly Brant, secretary, and Linda Pritz, treasurer. Our class rings were ordered this year. Peggy Marteeny was our attendant to the Homecoming Queen. . Our junior class officers were Patrick Mowry, Darlene Cochran, Peggy Marteeny, and Richard Raupach. The year began with the magazine campaign. We presented our first stage production, Ask Any Girl . Lin- .Qemvf Mfr MUN! Donald Cochran, Linda Pritz, James Ringler, Nancy Drabish da Stoddard, after competing against sev- eral other contestants, won the title of Miss Armed Forces. Finally prom time ar- rived and proved to be all we expected. At last our greatly anticipated senior year arrived. Donald Cochran was elected class president, James Ringler, Vice-presi- dent, Nancy Drabish, secretary, and Linda Pritz, treasurer. Cheryl Coughenour reigned as Homecoming Queen, with Darlene Coch- ran and Linda Stoddard as her attendants. Now we are engaged with the busy events of Class Night, Baccalaureate, and Commencement. We know when we are finally ready to enter the world we can do so with the strength of good friendships, knowledge, and the inspirations of these years to guide us. When the ancient Greeks engaged in athletic events, the sole prize which they sought was a wreath of laurel branches, symbolic of victory. So do modern-day athletes compete for nothing more than the pure reward ot competition. Students at BBJHS have the opportunity to participate in three varsity sports-football, basketball, and baseball-and other com- petition through intramural and physical education contests. Those who do not engage directly in these sports receive indirect pleasure by watching and cheering the teams to victory. Athletics may be called one of the best bonds known, not only in uniting teammates by their common goal-victory, b of school spirit by virtue of the universal pride in a successful team. ut also in the solidification 86 Mm? Our education was always Mrs. Baltzer's primary goal as we worked to put out our yearbook, and we have learned much. Her praise never came easily, and many were the times we painstakingly be- gan the revision of some copy or the replanning of a page. However, when the copy finally met Mrs. Baltzer's high standards or she approved our plans, we experienced the deep satisfaction of' knowing our work was truly well done and was worthy of being placed in our yearbook. Mrs. Baltzer has spent many hours of her own time to work with us, and through her guidance has aided us in publishing this record of our Senior year in high school, We offer our deepest appreciation to Mrs. Evelyn Baltzer, our adviser. H2 Skffafff ffflermye Since our first school day in l952, our class has grown from children into mature young people, preparing to accept responsibility in an adult world, a world of challenge and demands, We, more than any generation before us, are faced with keeping world peace, preserving freedom, and improving the lot of all men. In order to meet these challenges, we have been led in learning and growing here in Berlin Brothersvalley Joint High School. ln our yearbook, we have tried to show in the best possible manner, the various aspects of our school life-our time for learning. My gratitude goes to the staff for its wonderful cooperation, and my special thanks to the assistant editors who gave their best efforts to the publication of this, the l964 Bervalon. ll3 fa Mwwm will IEQUQMIKMHQW 35TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA MAY 29, 1917 NOVEMBER 221963 II5 EDITOR--LINDA PRITZ ASSISTANT EDITORS- LINDA BAUMAN, DANIEL HEPLER, LARRY WALKER THE BERVALON Volume twenty-seven Berlin, Pennsylvania May, I964 X ' T To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the IX heaven: fx -Ecdesiastes 3: I If S SII3f II6 ' ,, -a ii M1335 . .isa , 1:24 J .wg T42 V IRS' ,Q 1 4 N. , F K S' v v Qi. . xi EI, 4 .ikifr ' , :'?lvi -41'-215 A , IJ Q-v ' fifilf ' ' L.ix7f5 j g fix' ' ' 52.11 ,, ,, 1
