PRINCIPALS As our education progresses, the torch of knowlf edge sheds an everfwidening light on the vast wondrous wideness of our world. Education enf ables war-q man to enjoy the thrill of living in a world that becomes wider and wider as his awareness of its endless wonders grows. Our mastery of the language arts might well be considered the camera that permits us to study our wide world. Through the sciences, we may come to marvel at everything from the unicellular amoeba to the overwhelming possibility of nuclear fission. The social studies spread before us the panorama of the total culture of mankind. And, the mag' nificent beauty of our world is portrayed for us by the arts. Thus, the wideness of our world is limited only hy the scope of the education for which each of us may choose to strive. ELLVUCQD P, VARNER Principal There will be no dearth of opportunities in this wide, wide world in which upon graduation from high school you take your placeg you need have no fear on this score for never has the future prom' ised more to youth. The danger is that you may not recognize your opportunity, your chance when you meet it. A story is told of shipwrecked men crowded in a boat. They were dying of thirst. By accident they dropped a bucket into what they supposed to be the ocean and found instead that they were sail' ing in the fresh water of the mouth of the Amazon River. Almost too late they discovered their chance to survive. The opportunities you will meet come in all forms, often they are commonplace and you may overlook them entirely. Look for their quality, not their outward appearance. Be alert and open' minded to their true values. Remember that most men treat kings handsomely but only gentle' men are courteous to beggars. In a wide, wide world may you be clear of vision to recognize your chance in your chamber of days. JAMES M. CASSEL Supervising Principal I 1
