This book has caught glimpses here and there, so that in years to come the activities of this school year at Berkeley Springs High will not be dimmed and will not fade from memory. In later years, While turning these pages, if you should recall the many smiles, sorrows, and dreams of '63, we shall be content, know- ing that We have done the thing We were called upon to do. ARROWHEAD STAFF Dawn Close, Harry Barney, Co-Editors EDICATED TO . . . We, THE ARROWHHEAD STAFF of 1963, take great pride and pleasure in dedicating this edition of THE ARROWHEAD to Mr. William Randall, who, by his patient and understanding guid- ance has conscientiously and successfully contributed to our school a band of which we are very proud. Mr. Randall started his service to Berkeley Springs High School in the fall of 1955. At this time the outlook for the Berkeley Springs High School Band was not good, due to the facts that many of its members had graduated the previous year and that no future plans of rebuilding the band has been set up. Nevertheless, Mr. Randall started a rebuilding program in the Berkeley Springs High School and surrounding schools which in- cluded the addition of fifteen different instruments and new band uniforms. He has been fully responsible for our band which during the past four years has been awarded four consecutive Superior ratings at the Regional Band Festival. No such success can be possible without great effort on the part of somebody, Which, in this case, is Mr. Randall, to Whom THE ARROWHEAD STAFF sincerely and respectfully dedicates this volume of THE ARROWHEAD. Weber, George Noland, Assistant Superintendent. Seems like all school districts have school boards to direct the people who direct the students . . . vicious circle . . . school boards really come across some enormous problems, and they spend many of their free hours in stuffy meeting rooms discussing them. They must keep an eye on their new building projects, then worry about how they are going to pay for them . . . many other problems fall on the shoulders of the school board . . . the budget, overcrowded school rooms, the budget, setting school standards, the budget, approving new teachers, and . . . the budget. Again I say . . . vicious circle. Not many people would like to take over the job of having all those problems and making decisions that may influence the lives of everyone within their school district. For their sincere interest and their conscientious effort to provide the best educational facilities for the youth of the county, we are deeply grate- ful to these citizens of Morgan County. 6 9 Ei?Gfvx1n!ww.gwm-,, 5.51 54F,2gEii4QLj ' - 1V '1 W' W '51 ' HIV' 1 i 35151 -1 WEXHi?'Lp I 'nm -'r w ' ' - ,- 5?.':::1 fy I 53 5534 ' ' ,'5f:i??.1ii'1-' ', P Z-fi 55 Raymond S. Householder, Burton English, Linda Kerns, Anne Swaim, Peggy Avey, A student council, as the name implies, is a council composed of students. Each stu- dent has been elected by and represents one segment of the student body, thus, all ac- tions and activities carried out by the coun- cil are reported back to the students. Ideas, thoughts, or suggestions of non-council mem- bers may be taken back to the council by the representatives. In this Way it is felt that, although each student cannot attend the meeting, he is still a part of the student council. Tommy Johnson, Johnny Potter. 3rd Row: Jimmy Pierce, Tom Stuckey, President, Cheryl Stein, John Newbraugh, Harry Barney, David Allemong, Dennis Healy, Jo Johnson, Paula Aulabaugh, Vice-Presi- dent, Warren Widmyer, Sponsor. The student council meets twice a month. One member of the faculty advises the coun- cil and attempts to add ideas from time to time. The adviser also acts to inform the council of faculty policies. Berkeley Springs High School Student Council for the school year 1962-63 has made good progress. Under capable student leader- ship it has carried out various projects to benefit or aid the school. In addition, the council has continued to be the voice of the student body in expressing its opinions. OFFICE ASSISTANTS Seated: Judy McCoy, Wanda Sonnenburg, Mrs. Dawson, Secretary.
