SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Four years ago, on one glorious September morn ninety-eight gleeful laddies and lassies awaited entrance into the halls of the best high school in the land. Now, as Seniors, we look back upon the days in pleasant reminiscence of jovial times and fellowships together. As a class we came from town and country. Our school lives were spent in outlying districts and the graded schools of the grand old town of Berkeley Springs. Some were total strangers, both to their fellow students and to the methods of high school activities. For some the transition from the grades into high school was so smooth that a change was scarcely noticed, for others the way was new and turbulent. Be it as it may, we were all one team on the same field of knowledge charging our way through, with heads up, the four years of high school. It took only a short time for us to learn that we were all the class of '47, and with this thought came the desire and will to make this, our high school career, the best of any class that was ever graduated from B. S. 11. S. All teams must have captains, so here we pay due respect to our principal, teachers and coaches who have given their unrelinquished time, knowledge and patience to prepare us for the muddy field ahead of each of us. So, to you and our high school we bid you adieu and many glorious returns. “UPON PARTING” All through the years we study, Through the first act—the climax— Just waiting for the ending, Only to find that the curtain, Is abrupt—final—descending! The tears we shed at parting. Are futile; tho’ they no feeling lack, For they are shed for the past, and, You only can see by' looking hack. The pain, tears, of all the years, Are lost now, And we must learn as ever, What’s past is gone, don’t falter looking back, As the ties of the past you sever. The time of parting is now at hand, A bitter world lies at our feet, ’Tis goodbye—heavy weighs the time, Destiny holds triumph—or defeat. And to our tensioned thoughts, A last bell—a last class—the last scene— And in reality Our childhood passes on ! Oh dream. Which loads us on in memory. —Selected. 18 The 1947 Warm Spring Echoes
