Cross Country The Men ' s Cross Country Team had an outstanding season this year, winning League (GBAL) for the second year in a row. Four Jacket runners shared the spotlight: Senior Ben Turman won three of the four League meets; Junior Sean Lewis finished ninth in the Artichoke Invitational and third at the League Championship meet; Senior Brent Halvonik won one League meet and finished fifth at League; Sophomore Shumeye Mamo finished in the top six in every League meet, including fourth at League Championships. The Berkeley High School Women ' s Cross Country Team lacked the depth needed to compete for the league title. The squad suffered from the loss of two top runners who graduated, and was unable to replace them. As the team dwindled down to only eight faithful runners by the season ' s end, Berkeley had to settle for fourth place at league. Individually, Catherine Zinn had an excellent year, capturing all-league honors, finishing fifth at league and 29th at the north Coast 3 A meet. The two Beccas (Rebecca Foote and Rebecca Gettleman) push ahead of the El Cerrito competition (right). Sean Lewis gains momentum for the uphill stretch (below). ..-V ' .
